The Cincinnati Bengals, led by Joe Burrow, had one of the worst starts this season. Despite having the costliest quarterback at the helm, the team got embroiled in a poor losing streak and was unlikely to be a Super Bowl contender this year. However, the NFL world is known for its competitive landscape that changes the equation within moments, and the Bengals again proved that by having a stellar comeback.
The journey from 1-3 to 5-3 is undoubtedly a feat for Burrow’s squad. Though the team is still sitting at the bottom of the competitive AFC North, the recent performance of the team has increased the chance of Burrow to secure the MVP title this year while having an intense battle with fellow signal-callers in the league like the Baltimore Ravens Lamar Jackson.
Myles Garrett picks his MVP winner for this season
The Ravens are sitting atop the AFC North with a 7-2 mark, and it suffices to say, the team’s move of giving the blockbuster contract to Lamar Jackson actually paid off. Nevertheless, the Cleveland Browns star Myles Garrett gave his nod in favor of Burrow while picking up the potential MVP winner from the AFC North during his appearance on the “Up and Adams” show on Tuesday.
“I’m taking down Lamar but I’m taking Joe. As far as who’s got the nod over the other right now,” he said.
The veteran didn’t look down upon the Ravens star saying he definitely showcases an elite performance. However, Garett thinks Burrow is consistent and his approach is more laudable.
“I think Joe is coming on strong. When he’s healthy he’s one of those guys that can light you up each and every night. But Lamar does it in different ways. Even if his throwing is not on point that night, he can still rush for 150 and three touchdowns. He can beat you in a couple of different ways and Joe light you up for 400 and few people in the league can do that in general.”
Talking about having the best odds of winning the MVP award, the Kansas City Chiefs Patrick Mahomes still leads the chart with +225, via Sportskeeda. The Philadelphia Eagles Jalen Hurts is at the second spot with +350 while Lamar Jackson is tied with Burrow.
What NFL 2023 MVP odds say about QB Joe Burrow?
After suffering the blow of a calf injury before the season kicked off, Joe Burrow was projected not to have a potentially good season this year. Even his odds of winning NFL MVP at BetMGM were not promising as well. Nevertheless, the Bengals bounced back and earned back-to-back injuries and his odds to secure the title changed from +5000 in 2 weeks ago to +900 now.
The Cincy dual-threat sat at +8000 five weeks ago which became +4000 a week after. With the record of averaging 232.6 passing yards per game, it seems he is only getting near to winning the coveted MVP.
The signal-caller has been averaging 6.0 yards per attempt as a passer while averaging 2.4 yards per carry. Besides that, he holds 63.1% of the Bengals’ red zone plays while 41 of his 308 pass attempts came from inside the rival’s 20-yard line. He scored twelve touchdowns out of fifteen total touchdowns of his team.
