Caleb Williams was spotted in tears after hard-fought defeat to Washington, potentially ending USC’s title hopes

After winning the Heisman trophy in 2022, the USC Trojans quarterback Caleb Williams is regarded as the undisputed top prospect of the 2024 NFL draft class. Given his huge popularity in college football, the young star even followed Aaron Rodgers-esque demand of wanting the share of the franchise that would draft him.

However, things have not been going in favor of Williams as his team is embracing back-to-back defeats. The fans who once used to gush about him have started to throw equally brutal digs at him as well. After USC’s recent loss against the Washington Huskies, the QB couldn’t hold onto his emotion anymore.

Caleb Williams crying on the sidelines after Washington loss

USC and Williams had the best odds to win against the Huskies, instead, his team had to digest a 52-42 loss to the rival on Saturday night in Los Angeles. The QB broke down on the sidelines as he was seen sobbing with his parents while holding a cover over his face, via Oklahoman.com.

In the 10-point loss where USC’s defense put up a poor display, the 21-year-old did his job well on the offensive side. He went 27 of 36 passing and scored 4 total touchdowns for 312 total yards while averaging 8.9 yards per attempt.

The signal-caller had been the front-runner for winning the Heisman Trophy this year as well. The Huskies star Michael Penix Jr. was in the second position of the battle. However, with this loss, Caleb is also in danger of losing the honor to his rival team’s dual threat, and hence, his outburst couldn’t be more justified.

Penix went 22 of 30 passing and scored 3 total touchdowns for 256 yards while averaging 8.5 yards per attempt. Meanwhile, it marks the Trojans’ third defeat in their last four games.

Is USC out of the College Football Playoffs?

Williams tried to paint the football world with his stellar performance like he does to his nails before every game. Despite putting his best effort, Caleb Willliams couldn’t help USC ensure the College Football Playoff contention. The team lost the opportunity after embracing a 34-32 loss against the No. 14 Utah Utes.

The Trojans lost the game on a last-moment goal by Cole Becker. With that loss, the QB missed playoff chances for the back-to-back seasons at the hands of the Utes, and it also marked the team’s fourth straight loss to Utah. Prior to the defeat, their lone loss this season was against Notre Dame. Now, the recent loss to Washington has solidified his team’s failure to miss the Pac-12 Championship Game this year.

After having a disappointing season last year, the Trojans tried to gear up themselves this year with Caleb Williams and Lincoln Riley. However, luck didn’t favor them this season as well.
