The Pittsburgh Steelers were sitting at the top spot of the AFC North till Week 5 with a 3-2 record. After Week 8, they now slipped to the second spot of the division with a 4-3 mark, and the Baltimore Ravens are now in the leading position with 6-2.
The Steelers lost their Week 8 match against the Jacksonville Jaguars 20-10, and hence, the upcoming match against the Tennessee Titans will be a challenging contest for them to keep up their standing. Meanwhile, they might expect to have a booster on the defensive side as defensive lineman Cameron Heyward has shared a potential comeback rumor lately.
Cameron Heyward signals return with movie references
After missing games since Week 1, Heyward’s three-week practice window has been opened up in the last month. Following his first practice, the vet said he would not rush the healing process. He also said that the process has been taking effect, but he would take reps under his belt to become more comfortable, as per ABC News.
The Steelers star goes with the “trust myself, trust my body” nod and the aftermath of it has been good as his body has witnessed great progress lately. However, the NFL community was eager to know when he would lead the defense again.
The defensive player took to social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, to hilariously give updates about his comeback to the field. He first shared a GIF of Keanu Reeves’ “John Wick” with the caption, “People keep asking me if I’m back, and I haven’t really had an answer.”
The vet then followed up with the answer to the query with another GIF that says, “I’m thinking I’m back.”
Steelers fans, rest assured as Heyward is soon returning back to his action of giving tough competition to the rival’s defense. Without him, the team’s D-line gave up an average of 4.6 yards per carry, ranking them in the bottom 10 of the NFL this season.
Meanwhile, the struggle in their offensive side, led by the offensive coordinator Matt Canada, continues. The fans are also continuing their “Fire Canada” chant, but seemingly the Steelers will not be moving on from Canada soon.
What kind of injury did Heyward have?
Apart from starting the season with a loss to the San Francisco 49ers as well as facing trouble while flying to Pittsburgh and ultimately ending up requesting a playful help from Travis Kelce, Heyward’s journey in the season has been quite memorable in 2023.
Besides this, the vet also sustained a groin injury in Week 1 when he was trying to sack the 49ers’ cost-effective quarterback Brock Purdy. Though he tried to keep playing with the setback, he couldn’t continue after a while.
The 34-year-old has been missing from the field following that and has undergone surgery as well. On Wednesday, the Steelers activated him to the 53-man roster from the injured reserve, and he was not given an injury designation for Thursday night as well.
