Lionel Messi and Inter Miami’s relationship has gotten off to a flying start. The former PSG star was snapped up after his contract expired with the French club and has pretty much instantly lit up Inter Miami and the whole of MLS. Messi has the potential to make soccer one of the most popular sports in the United States and has already attracted a huge fanbase.
A-list celebrities are paying to see the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner in action, something he never got at PSG. Back in Paris, there have been incidents of fans booing him for reasons beyond his control which include the club’s failures in the Champions League. However, Messi has seen a lot of love at his new club, potentially impacting his performance which saw five goals in three matches he’s played for the club so far.

Lionel Messi’s impact on the MLS is more than just his on-field performances. The Argentine has produced the numbers primarily expected from a world-class player, improving his new club and the MLS in pretty much every aspect, including finances.
Focusing on his on-field performances, Messi could break Gonzalo Higuain’s record as Inter Miami’s leading goalscorer if he continues to produce the numbers he has been doing since his debut. Messi averages 1.67 goals per game, five in his last three games, which already ranks him as the tenth leading goalscorer at the club, 24 behind Higuain.
With the help of his former Barcelona teammates, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba, who now play for the club, Messi is expected by many to become Inter Miami’s leading all-time goalscorer and set a record other players will compete to break in years to come.
Lionel Messi’s goal-scoring spree continues
Lionel Messi has been sensational for Inter Miami since making his debut against Cruz Azul last month. After being introduced in that game, Messi scored a last-minute wonder free-kick, sending the fans in the stands into a frenzy, including LeBron James and Kim Kardashian.
He scored a brace in his second game, dedicating an iconic “Thor” celebration to David Beckham, who played a huge role in getting him to sign with Inter Miami despite having offers from Saudi and his former club Barcelona. Messi scored yet another brace in the club’s Round of 16 game against FC Dallas, taking his tally to five goals and one assist for his new club.

Messi has been tasked with leading Inter Miami to their first MLS Playoffs, but this might not happen this season as the Florida club sit rock bottom of the MLS Eastern Conference table.
