Chael Sonnen, the former two-time UFC title challenger, has made a name for himself in the MMA community. As an analyst, he has worked for various MMA promotions and he recently hosted the pre-fight press conference of PFL vs. Bellator: Champs.
As of now, UFC 300 lacks a main event, and various rumors about it are spreading on social media. Sonnen, who has been very active in the social media sphere recently, had comments to share about the circulating rumors.
Chael Sonnen reacts to viral fan theory
A viral fan theory circulating on social media speculates that Dana White might announce two new weight classes, 165lbs and 175lbs, potentially replacing the existing 170lbs division. Rumors even suggest a Conor McGregor vs. Michael Chandler headliner at UFC 300 for the new 165lbs division.
When a fan inquired about this news, Sonnen responded with a tweet discrediting the rumors, stating, “Hell no,” and highlighting the lack of a credible source. Given Sonnen’s close ties with executives from various MMA promotions, he possesses insider information on behind-the-scenes developments.
Sonnen, known for his outrageous takes on MMA matters, recently tweeted that Dricus du Plessis won all 5 rounds against Sean Strickland at UFC 297. Strickland and du Plessis fought a close fight in the main event of UFC 297 with the South African winning via split decision.
Sonnen found himself at odds with Jorge Masvidal, the former BMF champion, after the Miami native resolved his legal issues with Colby Covington in court. Sonnen’s comments on the incident did not sit well with Masvidal, leading to a social media beef between the two.
Will McGregor vs Chandler headline UFC 300?
Conor McGregor announced via social media on the 2024 New Year’s Eve that he will headline the UFC PPV on June 29 against Michale Chandler in a middleweight bout. However, the duo have made fight fans go into a frenzy with their potential fight at UFC 300.
“McGregor on 300 seals the deal,” tweeted McGregor, as the UFC has yet to announce the main event for UFC 300. The event features a BMF title fight between Justin Gaethje and Max Holloway in the co-main event. Michael Chandler also added fuel to the rumor with his cryptic tweet.
“T B D …,” tweeted Chandler by reposting the UFC 300 fight card tweet from the official UFC X account. UFC had earlier released the fight cards for UFC 300 on social media with the headlining bout remaining to be declared.
