Chael Sonnen, the two-time UFC title challenger, is one of the most popular MMA analysts on social media. Active on social media, Sonnen provides insights about the ins and outs of MMA through his official X handle and YouTube channel.
Sonnen recently delivered an in-depth monologue about the highly anticipated fights at UFC 299 and UFC 300. The self-proclaimed ‘American Gangster’ had words to say about Charles Oliveira, Islam Makhachev, Arman Tsarukyan, Conor McGregor, Michael Chandler, Benoit Saint-Denis, and Dustin Poirier.
Chael Sonnen forecasts which UFC 300 likely to be canceled
Still now, UFC 300, the highly coveted PPV of the promotion, is without a headliner. However, the PPV already has blockbuster fights in it. The co-main event is a BMF title clash between Justin Gaethje and former featherweight champion Max ‘Blessed’ Holloway. UFC 300 also has a number-one contender fight between Charles Oliveira and Arman Tsarukyan, which Chael Sonnen has apprehensions about.
“You’ve got Oliveira versus Arman, an awesome fight,” Sonnen said of the matchup, as usual, also mispronouncing Arman Tsarukyan’s first name. Sonnen has a tendency to misspell the names of Eastern European fighters, and fans believe that it is done on purpose. “Big problem, though, allegedly, whoever wins that fight draws into Islam,” Sonnen added further, referencing the number one contender stipulation attached to the lightweight bout.
“Charles doesn’t want to fight Islam. According to Charles, he’s fought him, doesn’t want to fight him again, wants to fight somebody else,” Sonnen went on to bash the Brazilian as he thinks that the fight will not happen due to Oliveira’s disinterest in fighting Makhachev, who submitted him at UFC 280 to win the vacant lightweight title.
“Was happy to fight Arum because Arum is not named Islam,” Sonne further went on to bash Oliveira for alleged ducking of the lightweight champion. It needs to be noted that Tsarukyan is coming off a first-round finish of Beneil Dariush. Tsarukyan had already called out Makhachev, who gave out a bone-chilling response to Tsarukyan and other contenders.
Chael Sonnen talks on Poirier vs Saint-Denis bout
Dana White’s announcement of the co-main event of UFC 299, a five-round lightweight bout between Dustin Poirier and Benoit Saint-Denis, was met with high praise from the UFC community. UFC commentator Joe Rogan himself holds Saint-Denis in high regard, jokingly alluding that he might have “killed people” during his tenure as a French paramilitary officer.
Nonetheless, Dustin Poirier recently tweeted that his fight with Saint-Denis was off due to contractual disagreements. However, Poirer would later clarify that it was a miscommunication issue and all things were sorted out. The Dustin Poirier drama has caught the attention of Chael Sonnen, who found the situation to be intriguing.
“When Poirier says, “I had spoken to my manager, we hadn’t come to terms. Okay, I have now spoken to my manager, turns out we did agree on terms,” what exactly is he talking about? What exactly are those terms?” inquired Sonnen about what prompted Dustin to take back his words.
“Is it about a dollar amount to go out into a co-main event spot? Maybe. Or is there a little sugar on top of that? Is it about getting contendership back?” Chael pondered about what might be the case but, as usual, reached the conclusion that he did not know.
