After winning against the Las Vegas Raiders in week 4, the Los Angeles Chargers went down in the next two games, including the heartbreaking three-point loss to the Dallas Cowboys. However, they geared up themselves in week 8 and picked up a 17-point win against the Chicago Bears.
The Chargers are now sitting at the second spot in the AFC West with a 3-4 mark. Meanwhile, the Los Angeles-based team sustained a new setback as their starting wide receiver, Joshua Palmer, might not be on the field when they face off against the New York Jets in week 9.
Chargers’ WR out of MNF battle with Jets
Palmer re-injured his knee after taking a hit on an early catch during the first quarter of the Chargers match against the Bears. He was unable to put weight on the injured leg while departing from the field. The 6’1″, 210-pound Tennessee product has been put back into the game, but the franchise decided to rule him out of the squad for the week 9 contest, via ESPN.
Palmer recorded 23 catches for 377 yards along with a touchdown and had been serving as the Chargers’ No. 2 WR as Mike Williams’ season ended with a torn ACL. Now, as he too got out of the squad, the team will have to lean towards rookie first-round pick Quentin Johnston.
Besides Palmer, the Charges listed Morgan Fox, Eric Kendricks, Sebastian Joseph-Day, Kenneth Murray, Jalen Guyton, and Otito Ogbonnia as questionable to play against Gang Green.
Jets eye 4th straight win vs Chargers
After losing their quarterback Aaron Rodgers in week 1 due to injury, the Jets lost rhythm and got embroiled in a losing streak. However, A-Rod’s backup Zach Wilson started to showcase his charisma gradually and pushed his team towards an upward trajectory.
After having a narrow loss from the defending champion Kansas City Chiefs, Gang Green now boasts a three-game winning streak till week 8. They even upset the formerly undefeated Philadelphia Eagles with a 6-point victory.
The Jets will try to stretch their winning team to four when they meet the Chargers at MetLife Stadium on Nov.7. Meanwhile, the Chargers are eyeing trying to secure their second consecutive game after thumping the Bears 30-13 last week. In their last meeting, the Chargers beat the Jets 34-28 on Nov. 22, 2020.
As both teams are in the mix of a tight AFC playoff race, which one do you think will win this time?
