Chelsea don’t seem to be stopping spending money anytime soon, with another transfer already lined up. The Blues have already spent heavily in the last three transfer windows under the new ownership, bringing in a large number of players.
As they are still struggling in their performances, they want to bring in more players, with Napoli striker Victor Osimhen a priority. And now the club is in the race for a goalkeeper from a rival team in the Premier League.
Chelsea target Arsenal GK Aaron Ramsdale
The goalkeeper in question is Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsdale, who has recently lost favor at the club. Despite being a model professional and player, he is constantly benched by manager Mikel Arteta, with Brentford loanee David Raya starting over him. Due to this recent snub, and with the Euros fast approaching, Ramsdale may want to leave in order to get playing time at another club.
Chelsea were already targeting the Englishman for a transfer in order to take advantage of the situation and get a good addition to the team. Premier League giants Newcastle United and Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich are also hugely interested in the player.
And now the rumors have intensified due to Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez suffering an injury. With backup keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga on loan to Real Madrid, manager Mauricio Pochettino can only rely on Djordje Petrovic. Petrovic is a 24-year-old Serbian who recently joined the club from the New England Revolution for a fee of âŹ14.00 million.
Obviously, the manager who has recently asked for more transfers, would want a replacement goalkeeper in the upcoming January transfer window. The team is just 12th in the Premier League and desperately need good performances to stay alive. And buying Aaron Ramsdale may be important for them. Chelsea have conceded too many goals, and a good shot stopper like him could prove beneficial.
Though Arsenal may not allow Ramsdale to leave easily, as David Raya is only on loan there. Ramsdale is also a good player, and Arteta would want a good replacement before selling him. If Chelsea come in with a good offer, coupled with the player’s desire to leave, the deal may very much happen.
Robert Sanchez injury update
Robert Sanchez was initially injured in the 2-0 loss against Everton, suffering a knee injury. The problem was picked up earlier in the defeat against Manchester United.
The full extent of the injury, along with how long he will be out of action, are information yet to be released. Though it is expected that he will be out for a long time, around a month at least. He will join captain Reece James and defender Marc Cucurella in being out of the pitch for a lengthy period of time.
Sanchez is expected to be back within the middle to end of January, but that will mean Chelsea will be without him for at least 6 games, which are all crucial fixtures. This means added pressure for the club to spend as much as needed to bring in a competent goalkeeper like Aaron Ramsdale this January.
Chelsea have a game against Newcastle United next in the quarterfinals of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday. Robert Sanchez’s absence will certainly affect them.
