The Kansas City Chiefs, led by quarterback Patrick Mahomes and wide receiver Marquez Valdez-Scantling, started the 2023 NFL season with a loss. However, they bounced back and picked up consecutive games in the following weeks to aim for a straight second Super Bowl this season.
The Chiefs smashed some big teams in their past games, but Jalen Hurts‘ Philadelphia Eagles are the most formidable team they have faced to date this season. After beating Philly months ago, the team has gone down to them 21-14 in Week 11. Though Mahomes doesn’t lose cool on any teammates, he wouldn’t surely forget the costly mistake of Marquez that led them to lose.
Marquez Valdez-Scantling drops go-ahead TD for the Chiefs
In the Chiefs vs. Eagles Week 11 clash, the former team secured a score at first and was even leading 17-7. However, Jalen Hurts struck hard with his infamous “tush push” strategy and hit wide receiver DeVonta Smith on a long pass to ensure the game-winning touchdown with only six-minutes remaining in the fourth quarter.
The Chiefs were shut down by Philly in the final 30 minutes of the campaign. However, the defending champion got a chance to steal the win from their rival when Mahomes aimed a long-range pass towards Marquez, although the receiver dropped it at the Eagles goal line with under two minutes remaining in the game.
The missed opportunity cost the Chiefs the most in Week 11, as they missed a potential win due to it. Mahomes finished the contest with 177 passing yards along with two touchdowns and one interception, while Hurts recorded 150 passing yards and two rushing touchdowns.
Marquez Valdez-Scantling’s frustration caught on camera
The environmental conditions in the Week 11 match were so unfavorable that the Chiefs players were clearly having problems holding onto the ball. Even their superstar tight end, Travis Kelce, dropped a couple passes and even fumbled inside the red zone. However, Marquez’s drop was the costliest given the crucial scenario of the match.
The NFL community and ex-Chiefs star Tyreek Hill couldn’t believe how the receiver made the mistake. Even the Chiefs WR himself was spotted dejected following the match, as a viral clip caught him while he was heading to the locker room with his head down. The footballer banged his helmet against the wall in frustration, according to The Sports Rush.
Apart from the four-point loss, the match has been bad for him individually, as he recorded zero receptions out of three targets. With the loss, the Chiefs fell to 7-3, albeit they still hold first place in the AFC West.
