Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes supports $19.5 million teammate’s contract holdout decision amid Andy Reid’s ominous comment

Patrick Mahomes started his NFL journey with the Kansas City Chiefs just one year after their vet player Chris Jones and together, they contributed the Chiefs to winning two Super Bowls within just four years and maintained a friendly connection off the field as well.

However, the four-time Pro Bowler missed training camp negotiating for a new contract with the team. Recently, the player revealed that he would hold out till the Chiefs’ Week 8 game. Meanwhile, after hearing his bold decision when the Kansas City management team was preparing for divorce with him, Mahomes chose to support his mate for his decision.

Jones, who is now the ninth-highest-paid defensive tackle in terms of average yearly income, has one year left on his deal with a base salary of $19.5 million. He already faces a $50,000 daily fine for missing the camp and failing to secure the necessary arrangements. According to Arrowhead Pride, he is going to lose an additional $1,083,333 for every game he skips if he keeps doing this in the regular season’s game as well.

The climax between the two parties worried the team’s vet quarterback; hence, he stood up in favor of his six-year partner. The two-time MVP acknowledged the difficult side of Jones’ current contract situation. In his opinion, Jones’ choice was justified since defensive backs need money to support their families, he claimed.

“No, not necessarily. I know that stuff, contract stuff, is hard to talk about because everyone wants to make money for their entire family and everything like that.”

Along with offering his support, Pat also expressed his love and affection for Chris and wished for a successful comeback in which he would forget all the details of the deal.

“But I know how much Chris loves the Chiefs and loves being a part of this organization. I just try to stay out of it and just tell Chris that I love him and that whenever he does come back, he’ll be welcomed with open arms. We know he’s preparing himself so when he does get back, he can be that dominant player he always has been.”

Expecting Jones to play for the team throughout the regular season is pointless because he is still determined on his choice. Patrick, though, doesn’t seem to be concerned about any additional strain brought on by this circumstance.

The two-time Super Bowl winner defensive tackles’ holding out decision irritated the Chiefs head coach. One day after learning his decision, Reid shared a scary comment on the defensive tackles’ contract asserting the Chiefs have had ‘no communication’ with him. The head coach seems confident enough to begin the team’s season without the only defensive player chosen for the Pro Bowl the previous year, much like Patrick Mahomes.

“There’s been no communication. So I don’t know what’s going to go there. Whatever happens, happens. If he’s not there, the game goes on, right? That’s how it works.”

As of right now, it seems like the KC club and their veteran defensive lineman are getting a perfect divorce. We’ll have to wait and see if Mahomes’ statement alters his decision in any way.
