Before their ‘superman’ Patrick Mahomes took it upon himself to restore the Chiefs to their former grandeur, they once boasted a wonderful victory-filled past that was about to fade.
With Mahomes, however, someone else had to shoulder additional pressure and responsibilities, and that individual is none other than the team’s head coach, Andy Reid, who is almost constantly chasing after the high-performing quarterback to improve his physique and stature so that he can give Kansas his best.
Andy Reid reveals’ unique perspective of coaching Mahomes
Patrick started his national level playing in 2017 with the Chiefs who last clinched their Super Bowl in 1969. However, that drought finally came to a close as Mahomes played a huge role in recapturing the glory.
The path was not easy to make or walk along. Yet, the 27-year-old has faced many challenges coming his way with the continuous assistance of Andy Reid.
Reid thinks his job with Pat is like a farmer who has to work relentlessly to get a good harvest rather than being idle for significant stretches of time. Per his comments, The HC always tries to generate new challenges for the two-time MVP to make him flexible for pretty much all challenges he may encounter.
“With quarterbacks, the work’s never done,” he said. “I’ve mentioned it before, it’s like being a farmer. You just keep on cranking. And we’re always trying to give him new challenges with things and he loves that and loves to attack those types of things. So, that’s where it’s at.”
“But there are always things to work on. Fundamentally, there’s things to work on. He spends a tremendous amount of time at that, he puts a lot of effort into it. And, obviously, the new plays,” he added.
How many Super Bowls has Patrick Mahomes won under Reid?
Under the guidance of Reid, the five-time Pro Bowler has won two Super Bowls, Super Bowl LIV in 2019 and Super Bowl LVII in 2022. With his three appearances in the Super Bowl, the quarterback thus came victorious two times within just four seasons.
In his third season of the 2019 campaign, the player made his first Super Bowl appearance when he helped his club defeat the San Francisco 49ers 31-20 in Super Bowl 54. The Chiefs once more had hopes of winning the Super Bowl in consecutive seasons the next year, but ultimately Tom Brady crushed their hopes by winning the trophy for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
By defeating the Philadelphia Eagles 38-35 and capturing the Super Bowl MVP title, Mahomes’ second Super Bowl triumph was a success in the 2022 campaign.
Chiefs fans will probably be hoping that this chemistry between the HC and his star player continues as usual.
