Chris Paul, the veteran Golden State Warriors star, is highly rated as one of the greatest point guards in the league’s history. The Warriors had traded the younger Jordan Poole, for the experience Chris Paul, back in July, to ameliorate the team’s defensive woes.
While the 12-time NBA All-Star guard has managed to deliver a handful of applaudable game outputs, he has made the headlines recently in a match against his former team for an unconventional remark towards an NBA referee, amidst the Warriors’ matchup defeat.
Chris Paul ejected against Suns
Chris Paul got ejected in the second quarter during the Warriors’ game against the Suns. Paul picked up his first technical foul over an argument with the referee, and received the second from referee Scott Foster, after his continued protest.
According to a viral clip, Chris Paul, after the ejection called Foster a bi***, before teammate Stephen Curry stepped into the situation. It’s reported that Paul and Foster have a history together, where there is no love lost between them.
One of the incidents between them was when Paul lost 13 consecutive playoff games, in which Foster was the head referee. Paul on his part, had numerously called out Foster for his purported acts towards him, which included games in 2018 while he was with the Rockets.
Foster, according to ESPN’s report, had before the Game 7 with the Thunder in 2020, reminded Paul that he had officiated his Game 7 loss with the Hornets to the Spurs in 2008. Chris Paul, who has averaged 9.8 points, 3.9 rebounds, 7.7 assists, and 39.8% FG so far coming off the bench, has received his Coach Steve Kerr’s backing.
Suns beat Warriors
Amidst Chris Paul’s ejection from the game, the Phoenix Suns were able to take advantage by clinching a 123-115 victory over the Golden State Warriors. The Phoenix Suns’ Kevin Durant achieved an impressive 32 points, followed by Devin Booker’s astonishing 25 points, which was enough to secure the Phoenix Suns’ fifth straight victory.
Klay Thompson was the Golden State Warriors’ leading top performer with 23 points, while Dario Saric averaged 17 points, with Stephen Curry’s 16 points. After Chris Paul was ejected from the game, the Warriors were also missing the potential of the suspended Draymond Green after his bizarre incident with Minnesota Timberwolves’ big man Rudy Gobert.
Chris Paul, having played the past three years for the Suns, and inspiring their 2021 NBA finals, received a heartwarming tribute from the Suns’ fans before the matchup. The game was quite strange, as both teams played with rotation players. Curry and Thompson were on the bench, as the Warriors made the last push. The Suns’ coach Frank Vogel then decided to reintroduce both Booker and Durant to close the game.
While the Warriors have now lost seven of their last eight games to record a poor of 7-9 for the season, a situation of Chris Paul joining Draymond Green in suspension could be more fatal for the team’s hopes of a season turnaround.
