The San Francisco 49ers are hot favorites to win the Super Bowl title this year, thanks to star Christian McCaffrey for his formidable dominance on the offensive side. The running back has been displaying stellar performance this season that can potentially earn him the title of Offensive Player of the Year and may be an MVP honor as well.
However, the injury of the veteran alongside left tackle Trent Williams and wide receiver Deebo Samuel put the 49ers in jeopardy, and they witnessed the first loss this season against the Cleveland Browns. The Niners fans might be feeling restless thinking about the team’s O-line in the absence of McCaffrey, albeit the RB himself voiced confidence about his return in Week 7.
Mccaffrey declares readiness for Vikings clash
The 49ers listed McCaffrey as “questionable” to play following Friday’s practice. After Saturday’s practice, his condition seemingly improved. When asked by the reporters about his update as well as Sunday’s game status, the veteran declared, “I feel great,” per David Lombardi of The Athletic.
The 27-year-old is the NFL’s leading rusher with 553 rushing yards till Week 6 and has recorded nine total touchdowns, with the feat of scoring a minimum of one touchdown in every game. If he fails to resume play against the Vikings, the RB duo Jordan Mason and Elijah Mitchell will be ready to dominate offense.
Meanwhile, Deebo Samuel has been ruled out from the squad due to a shoulder injury and he will also miss the 49ers’ upcoming game against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 8. TE Williams’ game status has been listed as doubtful, but he is expected to resume play after the week 7 game. Starting linebacker Dre Greenlaw has been listed as “questionable” with a hamstring injury, via ESPN.
What kind of injury did 49ers star Christian McCaffrey have?
McCaffrey sustained an oblique/rib injury early in the third quarter of the 49ers’ loss against the Browns. He later headed back to the field for one drive, but it only aggravated the injury. The RB left the field and never came back, recording 43 rushing yards on 11 carries, 3 catches for 9 yards along with 1 touchdown.
However, the MRI report revealed no concerning update, and he didn’t suffer any damage to the rib area. Hence, the injury designation was later updated to include only his oblique.
The San Francisco-based team decided to keep the offensive star out of the practice session during this week’s first two practices. He returned to the practice field on Friday to have conditioning as well as warm-up drills. Christian McCaffrey participated in drills on Friday as well and ran pass routes without any limitations.
