Jalen Brunson, keeping on par with his majestic form, dropped another 40-plus-point performance on Tuesday night against the Bulls.
The Knicks guard took the game by the scruff of the neck and led the New York franchise to their 47th victory of the regular season. After the game, his performance earned plaudits from teammates and opponents alike, but Bulls PG Coby White’s praise came with the most surprising choice of words one could imagine.
Jalen Brunson garners praise from Coby White
After the Knicks’ 128-117 win against the Bulls, Coby White assessed the Chicago team’s performance. Talking to the press in a post-game interview, the 24-year-old had some interesting praise for his opponents of the night, especially Jalen Brunson.
“Hats off to them. They’re very physical, they’re a really good team, they play to their identity,” said the guard. He further added, “Brunson’s a motherf**ker.” While the words might not express his respect towards Brunson, everyone nonetheless got the idea it conveys.
Brunson himself also talked in the post-game interview where he emphasized the mindset of bouncing back with a win after their final face-off with the Bulls ended in a loss on April 5.
Brunson recorded 45 points along with 8 assists and 3 rebounds. His accuracy was not up to his regular high standards as the 27-year-old only scored 13 of his 24 field goal attempts. With this performance, Brunson has now hit a unique season landmark which only shows his improvement since moving from the Mavs.
Jalen Brunson records tenth 40+ game of the season
With the 45-point performance against the Bulls, Brunson has now reached 10 40+ point games this season. This includes 9 in the regular season and one in the In-Season tournament against the Milwaukee Bucks.
In the 110-105 loss to the Bucks, Brunson scored 45 points back in November. His second one came against the Detroit Pistons in the same month when he scored 42 points in a 118-112 win.
He scored 50 against the Suns, 41 against the Wizards and 40 against the Pacers before the NBA All-Star break. After encountering a hilarious situation involving his father during the All-Star weekend, the former Villanova guard resumed his 40-plus point conquest.
After some “dogsh*t” performances in early March, Brunson reinvented his form by scoring 45 and 42 points against the Trail Blazers and The Kings, respectively, before a massive 61-point haul in a losing effort against the Spurs in the same month.
In consecutive games, his 9th and 10th 40-plus point games came this month against the Bucks and the Bulls. Before his 45 points against the Chicago franchise on Tuesday night, Brunson lodged 43 points against the Milwaukee side.
With all these explosive performances under his belt this season, one doesn’t have to be a rocket scientist to figure out that Brunson and Co. have the potential to be a menace during the playoffs.
