The American Nightmare, Cody Rhodes is on a mission to complete his story with Roman Reigns and win the WWE Undisputed Championship. Rhodes was the favorite to win the Royal Rumble match, but the return of stars like CM Punk and The Rock diminished his chances of winning the match.
While addressing the fans after the Smackdown episode last night, Rhodes expressed his pride and love for his hometown of Atlanta. Cody confirmed to bring back the WWE Undisputed Championship to his hometown.
Cody Rhodes vows to bring WWE title to Atlanta
Being part of the RAW roster, Cody Rhodes appeared on tonight’s SmackDown show and faced Shinsuke Nakamura in a dark match after the show went off the air. Rhodes defeated Nakamura by pinfall and interacted with the crowd in his hometown of Atlanta.
Rhodes said, I’ve done a few silly things, but all of them were in the efforts to give the city, the town, the community that raised me something to remember. When you’re home, you share things that only you would share at home. Here’s one. There is only one thing that makes me tired of coming home. The only only thing that makes me tired when coming home is coming home empty-handed. I think we need to change that.”
Rhodes grew up watching and idolizing his father Dusty Rhodes, who was a prominent figure in the Atlanta-based World Championship Wrestling promotion in the 1980s and 1990s. Atlanta was the place in which Rhodes started training at the age of 12.
The American Nightmare made it clear that his ultimate goal is to bring the WWE Championship back to his hometown of Atlanta. Rhodes confirmed that he is aware of all the rumours around him and Rock, who is rumoured to take away Rhode’s spotlight from the main event of WrestleMania 40.

On his speech today, Rhodes confirmed that he is set to win the 30 mens Royal Rumble match for the second time in a row. Rhodes said, “And I am not immune to all the news, everything that’s happening, what will happen, what won’t happen. All I tell you is this. I’m the right man for the job, I’m the best man for the job. I’m heading into the Royal Rumble, I’m gonna go back-to-back. And I’m gonna bring a championship back home to Atlanta.”
Rhodes expressed his determination to win the Royal Rumble match for the second time in a row and challenge Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship at WrestleMania 40. Having already proven his ability to win the Royal Rumble match in 2023.
The American Nightmare outlasted 29 other superstars, and earned the right to main event WrestleMania 40. Despite interference from the Bloodline in that match, Rhodes is enthusiastic about winning the Royal Rumble again and settling the score with Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 40.
