Cody Rhodes’ WrestleMania opponent is uncertain after The Rock challenged Roman Reigns for the belt

While the return of The Rock thrilled WWE fans, it has also cast a shadow on the subsequent developments of Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns’ storylines. Rhodes was expected to face Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship at WrestleMania 40 after losing to him at WrestleMania 39.

The American Nightmare was expected to face Reigns at WrestleMania, but with The Rock’s return to WWE, the plans for WrestleMania’s main event look to have shifted.

The Rock returns to challenge Roman Reigns

The Peoples Champion The Rock made a surprising return to WWE yesterday at the first Monday Night RAW of 2024, Day 1. Rock made a surprise appearance by interrupting Jinder Mahal and hitting him with a people’s elbow.

The segment came close to ending, but at the end, The Rock took the microphone and teased about a possible rival with Roman Reigns. Rock said, “Or should The Rock sit at the Head of The Table.”

The 16-time WWE Champion John Cena has increased the hype by posting a picture on his official Instagram account of The Rock face-to-face with Reigns. The fans response to Cena’s post shows the entire WWE universe wants to see both the big names in WWE in a match.

One report claims that Rock vs Reigns will happen not at WrestleMania 40 but after the Royal Rumble in the Elimination Chamber pay-per-view. Not only at WrestleMania, but any event with the Rock vs Reigns title is bound to be a success.

Who is going to be Cody Rhodes’ WrestleMania opponent?

As per reports, if Rhodes doesn’t face Reigns at Wrestlemania, he is expected to challenge Seth Rollins for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. WWE is also planning a feud between CM Punk and Rollins for Wrestlemania, it will be exciting if WWE adds Rhodes to the match for a triple threat match.

Another possible opponent for Rhodes is the King of Strong Styles, Shinsuke Nakamura. Rhodes and Nakamura were recently involved in a feud in Monday Night RAW. Nakamura and Rhodes have never faced each other in a singles match, and if the match happens at WrestleMania 40, it will be a show-stealing match.

After the Day 1 show, The Rock was seen backstage with the current WWE President Nick Khan and the fans are worried that Rhodes’ spotlight may be affected by The Rock’s return to WWE.

Many WWE fans and Hall of Famers prefer Rhodes as the best choice to face Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 40, dethrone him, and finish the chapter. With this, Rhodes’s participation in the main event of WrestleMania still remains doubtful.
