Colby Covington, in a recent appearance on the Valuetainment podcast, took a mocking jab at rising contender in the UFC’s lightweight division, Paddy Pimblett. Earlier, Covington’s recent remarks about Leon Edwards‘ dead feather did not go unnoticed by the MMA community.
Paddy has yet to respond to the remarks levied against him. Pimblett also competed at UFC 296 where he won a unanimous decision victory over former interim lightweight champion, Tony Ferguson.
Paddy Pimblett becomes target of Covington’s latest rant
Paddy Pimblett, the former Cage Warriors featherweight champion, is known for his charismatic personality, quickly amassing a huge fan base in the UFC. Colby Covington, the former interim welterweight champion, often employs offensive remarks against his opponents, getting reactions from fighters outside his weight class, such as Justin Gaethje and Paddy.
Covington’s latest rant was against none other than Pimblett who despises Covington for his crude remarks about Leon Edwards’ deceased father. “Paddy, if he didn’t have a bowl cut and an accent, nobody would care about Paddy. That’s the only reason they like him, is a bowl cut and an accent,” said Covington of Pimblett on the Valuetainment podcast.
“He’s not even a good fighter. He’ll never be a top-30 fighter. The closest he’ll ever get to fighting for a world title is if he got on his knees and came and sniffed my jockstrap,” Covington further poured on Pimblett’s dismissive of the Liverpudian’s chances to become a champion in the UFC.
Jon Jones slams Colby Covington’s mockery of Leon Edwards’ deceased father
Colby’s offensive comments about Edwards’ deceased father did not go unnoticed, even by the UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones, who was once a roommate of Covington in Junior college. Covington’s remarks first got the ire of the UFC middleweight champion, the outspoken Sean Strickland.
Strickland, at the UFC 2024 Seasonal Press Conference, bashed Covington for the remarks. Jones seconded Strickland’s remarks on X, formerly Twitter. “Could’nt agree with Strickland anymore,” tweeted Jones.
“Colby is by far the most heinous human being I’ve encountered in my life”, Jones further added alluding to their past of being roommates. “He’s an absolutely terrible human being,” Jones concluded the tweet further bashing the NCAA Division I collegiate wrestler.
Covington apologized to Edwards at the ceremonial weigh-ins which was caught on camera. However, the UFC removed the scene from the UFC Embedded episode. Nevertheless, Colby continues to double down on his remarks even after the loss to Edwards.
