Cole Palmer revealed the only thing Pep Guardiola did not know about the game

Cole Palmer shocked everyone when he decided to leave Manchester City for Chelsea this summer, despite getting much game time at the club and experiencing much success. He was one of the most exciting talents to come out of the academy there and was expected to be a big player for them in the future.

However, now that he is at Chelsea, he has to make do with becoming a big player with some good performances. And Palmer has already started just that!

Cole Palmer revealed Pep Guardiola interaction

The former City youngster shared his experiences in an article by the Player’s Tribune. He revealed that while he was ready to make his second appearance in the Premier League against Burnley in the 2021–22 season, Pep Guardiola had a moment with him on the touchlines.

Pep was contemplating whether to put him in the game. Since there was an academy-level game against Leicester where Palmer was also required, Pep wanted to be sure if he could play two games in one day.

The 20-year-old recounted that Pep asked, “If I put you on now, are you sure you can still play later? Are you sure? There’s no rule that says you can’t?”

Palmer jokingly then says while Pep may know everything about the game of soccer, having revolutionized the game itself, he doesn’t know one thing. And that is whether a player can play two games in one day.

Cole also says that he did play some minutes, and afterwards ran to play the academy game against Leicester, where he scored a hat trick. At the time, the story went viral and showcased the energy and willingness of Palmer to become better.

Cole Palmer scores his first PL goal

While Cole Palmer was still impressive for City under Guardiola, he decided to make the move to Chelsea who are in a rebuild. He did it to establish himself as a first team player, which would have been hard to do at the star studded City squad.

Palmer has now already begun his Chelsea goal scoring account, scoring a goal against Burnley. He had scored it in the 50th minute through a penalty which put them back in the lead. The team would later win 4-1 against Burnley, a much needed win considering their poor start to the season.

Palmer has already played in six games for the club, and also has two assists to his name. He has received much game time under Mauricio Pochettino who admires the former City starlet.

Cole Palmer and Chelsea will now prepare for the next game against Arsenal in the league on Saturday. Palmer would be hoping to help his team with another goal as Chelsea desperately need some more wins.
