Conor McGregor made his Hollywood debut with the remake of the cult film ‘Roadhouse’. Released on Prime Video, McGregor’s portrayal of Knox, the primary antagonist, garnered rave reviews from both critics and audiences.
While many UFC fighters have ventured into Hollywood, none have landed a starring role in a major film production like McGregor. Given the immense popularity of the former two-division UFC champion, his compensation for the film has become the talk of the town.
Conor McGregor reacts to Road House final fight scene
The recently released Road House movie was a delight for action movie fans across the globe. Even though the film faced a lawsuit with accusations of copyright violations, the movie’s release proceeded as planned.
Prime Video recently unveiled behind-the-scenes footage featuring Jake Gyllenhaal, the movie’s protagonist, practicing stunt sequences with Conor McGregor. Shortly after, McGregor reposted the video tweet with the caption, “Proper graft!”
The video posted by Prime Video was the final fight scene of the movie where Gyllenhaal defeats McGregor. A car was also involved in the scene as McGregor had to punch through the glass of the car door.
Gyllenhaal portrayed an ex-UFC fighter in the movie and he even attended a UFC PPV event along with McGregor for promotion of the movie. Some of the scenes in the movie were shot at UFC events.
Is Conor McGregor the highest paid debut actor of all-time?
Conor McGregor recently claimed to be the highest-paid debutant actor of all time, although his remuneration for the film has not been revealed yet. Dwayne Johnson famously earned $5.5 million for his role as Mathayus of Akkad, the Scorpion King, in the 2001 movie “The Mummy Returns” and its standalone prequel “The Scorpion King” in 2002.
McGregor is presumed to have received an eight-figure payday for “Road House.” However, it’s worth noting that Johnson’s $5.5 million salary was for “The Scorpion King,” his second movie. For “The Mummy Returns,” his compensation was not nearly as high, as he had a smaller but pivotal role as the final villain boss in the climax of the movie.
McGregor has proudly boasted that in addition to being the highest-paid Hollywood debutant, he is also the highest-paid boxing debutant as well as the highest-paid UFC athlete. McGregor is indeed the highest-paid UFC athlete as evidenced by the big PPV events he headlined.
McGregor made close to $100 million for his professional boxing debut against Floyd Mayweather. The numbers are not definite as both boxers signed a deal non-disclosure agreements as per Bleacher Report.
With the promotional duties for the movies over, McGregor has set his sights on his UFC return. Cody Durden, a UFC flyweight, potentially leaked McGregor’s return date via his Instagram post.
