Conor McGregor, the former two-division champion is no stranger to controversy. “Notorious” has had his fair share of controversy throughout his career. He has not competed since his unfortunate leg break at UFC 264.
McGregor’s escapades at the NBA finals game between the Denver Nuggets and the Miami Heat in Miami garnered controversy for multiple reasons. One, for punching the mascot of the Miami Heat and the second for an alleged rape.
Conor McGregor to not face alleged sexual assault charges
UFC superstar Conor McGregor recently faced a legal hurdle. TMZ reported he was under scrutiny for an alleged sexual assault. This incident supposedly took place during an NBA Finals game in June. However, there’s a new twist in the story.
Prosecutors have now dropped the charges. They cited “insufficient evidence” as a primary reason. Furthermore, they highlighted the lack of “corroborating witnesses.” These factors made it tough to confirm the allegations against McGregor. Consequently, this decision took place after the incident on June 9 at the NBA Finals Game 4. The location was Miami’s Kaseya Center.
Barbara Llanes, McGregor’s attorney, commented on this development. She showed relief and satisfaction. In her view, there was no substantial case against her client. Therefore, the legal pursuit seemed unnecessary.
McGregor is recently back inside the USADA testing pool. Ironically, USADA would not be UFC’s anti-doping partner from January 1, 2024. Drug-Free Sports International would be the UFC’s anti-doping partner from then on.
What happened to Conor McGregor at the NBA Finals?
McGregor was at the NBA game for promotional reasons. However, the evening had its share of drama. First, he knocked out the Miami Heat mascot. Yet a bigger controversy arose later. There were claims that McGregor assaulted a woman in a men’s restroom.
The arena’s CCTV footage provided some insights. It captured Conor McGregor and the accuser together. They spent roughly five minutes in the restroom. Later on, they appeared together at a club that was inside the venue. A restroom attendant played a crucial role in the investigation. He saw the pair enter a stall. However, he didn’t notice any signs of distress.
The accuser’s friend also revealed a crucial piece of information. There was no warning given to her about the supposed assault. The accuser’s attitude also seemed suspicious. She appeared intrigued by McGregor’s possible responses. She mulled over the possibility of McGregor agreeing to a monetary settlement. This was done to avoid a drawn-out legal battle.
A few days later, another revelation came to light. The accuser’s attorney made a bold claim. He said the NBA offered her $100,000 for her silence. However, the NBA quickly countered this. They labeled the claim as “categorically false.”
