Even the best athletes sometimes struggle to maintain their forms across consecutive seasons. Despite having a disappointing year, the Dallas Cowboys still seem very much willing to continue supporting their veteran player Dak Prescott as the quarterbacks’ success rate from 2020-2022 ranks fourth.

Cowboys embrace new offensive era geared towards elevating Dak Prescott
Prescott played college football for the Mississippi State Bulldogs before being selected by the Cowboys in the fourth round of the 2016 NFL Draft. Since then, he has demonstrated his insane skills and solidified his place in the team with his work ethic.
As a result, the entire Cowboys team appears to have developed a deep affection for the player and could design a Dak-friendly squad to elevate his performance to past highs. Jones discussed their strategy for enabling Prescott to potentially have his finest season on 96.7 The Ticket, via Jon Machota of TheAthletic.com.
According to Jerry, the starting offensive lineup will be explosive, which will allow Dak to be less cautious with his coverage.
“It’s Dak-friendly,” Jones said. “He’s going to have an offensive line that is going to be able to protect him better, their spacing is narrower, which is conducive to protection. He’s going to have more opportunities to dump the ball off to the backs. He’s going to have less to do before the snap, and less to read after the snap.”
The team owner also mentioned that they had a plan in place to increase Dak’s efficiency, so they wanted him to do less work and serve more as a game manager,
“The receivers are going to be less dependent upon reading the d-back and Dak reading the d-back. It’s going to be more about being at a spot where they should be. The [combination] of all of it, and all of it is adjustments, not dramatic changes. When you combine it all then I’m confident that we’re going to be excited about how it protects Dak and how it actually helps efficiency for Dak.”
How long is Dak Prescott’s contract with the Cowboys?
Prescott agreed to a four-year, $160 million agreement with a guaranteed $126 million in 2021. The $66 million signing bonus, which was at the time the highest in NFL history, made him, along with Matthew Stafford, the sixth-highest-paid quarterback in the league.
The quarterback’s contract, which is fully guaranteed but currently includes voidable years in 2025 and 2026, is expected to pay him $31 million in 2023. He will become a free agent after the 2024 season because of his contract with the team, which runs through 2024.
The Cowboys will deduct $49.1 million from the salary cap for his existing contract in 2023 and $52.1 million in 2024, per overthecap.com.
There hasn’t been any indication of a breakup between the player and the squad as of yet; instead, they seem to have full faith in him and have built their 2023 strategy in a way that could facilitate his performance.
