Dak Prescott reveals Cowboys’ regret post-Eagles game while nearing 80-year-old record

From the season’s kickoff, Dallas Cowboys starter Dak Prescott left no doubt about their Super Bowl aspirations, instilling unwavering confidence in his teammates’ minds following a challenging preseason. Under Prescott’s adept leadership, the Cowboys asserted their dominance by convincingly defeating highly touted Super Bowl contenders, including the Kansas City Chiefs, Buffalo Bills, and San Francisco 49ers.

Notably, Prescott’s team sealed a resounding victory over the Philadelphia Eagles, avenging a defeat suffered just five weeks prior. While the signal-caller quarterback is on track to join NFL legends Aaron Rodgers and Brett Favre with outstanding passing records, approaching an 80-year-old NFL record, the Cowboys’ decisive 33-13 win failed to bring the expected solace to the accomplished quarterback.

Prescott expresses regret over Eagles match

After losing to the Eagles in their first meetup this season, head coach Mike McCarthy, after a post-game pep talk in Philadelphia, instilled the belief in his players that they had the potential to triumph against formidable opponents. Five weeks later, that belief manifested into reality as the Cowboys showcased their ability to overcome the high-flying Eagles team.

In spite of the win, Dak Prescott, who was instrumental in both games against the Eagles, himself remains his harshest critic, acknowledging that there’s room for improvement and a desire to reach even greater heights.

In a reflective moment, Prescott expressed his relentless pursuit of perfection; thrashing out the play was not his “best game,” but a play to grab a win. Per Prescott, his best play could lead his team to score at least 50 points over the Eagles.

“I’m my biggest critic. As I talk about my performance tonight, it was good enough to win, but I hold myself to super high standards. If I play my best game, we’re putting up 50 out there. I’m going to keep pushing for that.”

While the Cowboys haven’t reached the elusive 50-point mark this season, they have surpassed 40 points on five occasions. Prescott’s aspiration to achieve a 50-point game reflects the team’s ambitious mindset and their relentless pursuit of offensive excellence.

Prescott’s performance against the Eagles included completing 24 of 39 passes for 271 yards and two touchdowns, as per the Bleacher Report. Despite these notable contributions, Prescott’s dedication to improvement shone through as he lamented a first-quarter series with six incompletions.

Dak Prescott approaching a record unseen since Rams QB Bob Waterfield

Dak Prescott is not just making waves on the field; he is on the verge of etching his name in the annals of NFL history. Currently, the “man of God” in Denzel Washington’s eyes is on pace to achieve a remarkable feat that hasn’t been accomplished in almost 80 years, leading the league in touchdown passes a season after leading in interceptions.

The last player to achieve this rare distinction was quarterback Bob Waterfield during the 1945–46 season. As a rookie with the Cleveland Rams in 1945, Waterfield topped the NFL charts in both touchdowns (14) and interceptions (17) in 10 games.

Remarkably, he replicated this performance the following year, leading the league in touchdowns (17) and interceptions (17) once again. Those 17 interceptions didn’t lead the league in either of those years, making Waterfield the only player in NFL history to accomplish this unique statistical feat.

Fast forward to the present day, and Dak Prescott is on track to emulate Waterfield’s historic achievement. Prescott, who led the NFL in interceptions in the 2022 season, is poised to finish the 2023 season as the league leader in touchdown passes.

Amid Prescott’s own critical evaluation of his performance, the odds are in his favor, both statistically and in the eyes of oddsmakers. Now, the Cowboys’ legend is holding the shortest odds (+185) to win the 2023 NFL MVP award.

Looking ahead, Prescott and the Cowboys face two challenging matchups against top-tier competition in the coming weeks, with road games against Buffalo and Miami. These contests not only provide an opportunity for Prescott to further solidify his MVP candidacy but also to continue his quest to rewrite the record books, an achievement that has eluded the NFL for nearly 80 years.
