Damar Hamlin makes his Paycor Field return to shed light on CPR and AED awareness for the first time since his cardiac arrest

The Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen might have gotten a nod over the Cincinnati Bengals Joe Burrow by former NFL running back LeSean McCoy, but Burrow was the one to have a happy smile in Week 9. Cincy’s resurgence is going strong as they picked up four consecutive victories.

Meanwhile, the Bills slipped to 5-4 and are sitting at the third spot of the AFC East, behind the Miami Dolphins and New York Jets. Keeping aside the 18-24 loss, the Bills fans had one reason to be happy in Week 9 as their favorite safety Damar Hamlin returned to Cincinnati after witnessing a scary life-threatening injury in the field a few months ago.

Damar Hamlin returns to Paycor Field to share awareness

After going through a life-threatening situation, Hamlin returned to Paycor Stadium in Cincinnati. It must be a different feeling for him to get back to the place where he almost lost his life. The safety didn’t take the field, but he made the trip to the home stadium.

The 25-year-old warmed up on the sidelines ahead of their contest against the Cincinnati Bengals. Before of his entry into the stadium, he had dinner with the 10 people who played a big role in saving his life earlier. The young star even announced a scholarship program named ‘Damar Hamlin’s Cincinnati Heroes Scholarship’ through his Chasing M Foundation which will be awarded in the name of these people.

“Last night I had dinner with my heroes. 10 of the UC Medical Staff that helped save my life. I surprised them with a scholarship named after each of them that will support youth in Cincy to chase their dreams. Wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for them!”

Hamlin was earlier rumored to return to the action in preseason and he successfully did so. Though he is fit enough to resume play, the Bills are taking time to let him head to the field to ensure he is fully ready to do so. Meanwhile, the Bills defensive star was spotted hovering near Cincy’s logo by himself.

What happened to Damar Hamlin?

In the Bills match against the Bengals on Jan. 2, 2023, Damar Hamlin sustained a cardiac arrest as a helmet struck his chest while making a tackle. He stayed motionless as the team doctors rushed to the field and did CPR on him. Many fans and even his teammates broke down in tears thinking they would lose him.

However, the defensive star stunned the football community with a remarkable return. He spent a week at the University of Cincinnati Medical Centre and then returned to Buffalo for rehabilitation. The young star received his clearance to resume football activities in April.

Following the horrible incident, Hamlin continued to raise awareness about CPR as well as AED. He made several CPR tours in Cincinnati, New York, and Pittsburgh to make people aware of hands-on CPR. The Bills star also donated automated external defibrillators to sports teams.
