Damian Lillard was all over the news just a few weeks back because of his hot trading drama. Lillard, who was with the Blazers at the time, had requested a trade, making headlines about his desire to join the Miami Heat. However, fate had different plans, and he ended up joining the Milwaukee Bucks.
Since arriving at the Bucks, Dame has proven to be a valuable asset to the team. His partnership with the best player in the league, Giannis Antetokounmpo, has formed a dangerous combination. Moreover, Dame unknowingly provided an NBA rookie with his “welcome to the NBA moment” by not moving to the Miami Heat.
Damian Lillard handed Heat rookie his “welcome to the NBA” moment
Damian Lillard’s move to the Milwaukee Bucks unknowingly provided an opportunity for an NBA rookie to experience his “welcome to the NBA moment.” Jamie Jaquez Jr., the rookie drafted by the Miami Heat this summer, had a chance to showcase his skills in the NBA as Dame did not join Miami. Jamie spoke to HoopsHype in an interview, discussing how it was for him dealing with Damian Lillard trade rumors and not knowing whether he would even start for the squad.
He reportedly said,” Welcome to the NBA. That is a part of things you are going to have to deal with. First offseason, then trade rumors, then welcome to the league. That is the job you are in. I tried to always stay focused. I was in Miami and was trying to be professional. I am here now, that is what I am going to focus on. Staying in the present and in the moment. Whatever happens will happen. We should look on the bright side and enjoy it.”
Jamie is rising as a top talent at Heat adding value to the squad led by Jimmy Butler. He has been averaging 11.2 points, 2.4 assists, and 3.8 rebounds this season but his performance is improving with every passing game.
Lillard shares a moment with Scoot Henderson
The Milwaukee Bucks faced the Portland Trail Blazers on Sunday. This game was the first game for Damian Lillard against his old team after being traded to the Bucks this off-season. The Blazers were in the lead and it looked like they were going to win the game but a last moment effort by the Bucks ace, Giannis Antetokoumpo saved the day for the Bucks as they went home as the victors for the matchup.
Damian Lillard performed well and scored 31 points but was unable to sink a 3-pointer at a crucial moment which tied the game. However, Giannis made up for his partner’s mistake and tipped in with just 18.1 seconds remaining on the clock to secure a comeback win for the Bucks with a final score of 108-102. After the game ended, Dame approached Scoot Henderson, who has been filling in the shoes of Dame as a guard for the Blazers since he left.
Both players embraced each other and exchanged a few words, and the crowd was moved by the sweet interaction between the former and current Blazers guards. It was a very wholesome moment to witness, deeply affecting the diehard Blazers fans.
