After a much-needed All-Star break, the Los Angeles Lakers took on the Golden State Warriors earlier today in a game that ended in sorrow for Anthony Davis and the Purple and Gold.
While the Lakers were shorthanded in their defeat against an in-form Warriors side, Lakers head coach Darvin Ham provided the media with one of the most bizarre excuses the coach could find revolving around Anthony Davis.
Anthony Davis used for bizarre reasoning in Warriors loss
The Los Angeles Lakers were missing superstar LeBron James and a few other stars in their loss to the Golden State Warriors after sore ankle that the King picked up during the star-studded All-Star Weekend. All responsibility fell on center Anthony Davis who spearheaded the team from the front.
However, the lack of LeBron James and an effective supporting cast was very evident as the Warriors torched the team through Stephen Curry. The Lakers also seemed quite flawed on the defensive end of the court with players seeming to be clueless against their opponent.
Curry set the tone of the game, hitting a flurry of threes right from the beginning, asserting his dominance over Anthony Davis’ Lakers. Following the loss, the team was absolutely fractured and will hope for LeBron James’ quick recovery so that the team’s chances aren’t affected.
Addressing the media from the Lakers’ side was Darvin Ham who discussed various aspects regarding the loss and Bron’s injury. However, in doing so, Ham provided the media with one of the most bizarre reasonings the league might’ve seen this season.
According to Ham, the loss against the Warriors was purely attributed to Anthony Davis’ loss of voice which resulted in the lack of communication within the team. According to NBA writer Dan Woike, Ham said that Anthony Davis lost his voice and that it affected the team’s defense in the loss to the Warriors tonight.
Davis’ history-making night despite loss
The loss against the Golden State Warriors did not stop Lakers superstar Anthony Davis from making history in the league. Against the Warriors, the superstar showed out with a dominant display of basketball scoring 27 points and grabbing 15 rebounds. In doing so, Davis climbed up the all-time scorers list, moving to the 101st spot with 17,162 points, surpassing Hall of Famer Grant Hill who has 17,137 points.
Davis is expected to continue ascending the ladder, with the next position held by Hall of Famer Chris Webber, who has 17,182 points. This season, Anthony Davis has been impeccable for the Los Angeles Lakers, averaging 24.9 points, 12.2 rebounds, 3.8 assists, 1.1 steals, and 2.5 blocks per contest while shooting 55.3% from the field in 52 games.
The star also earned his ninth All-Star selection this season and is leading the league in various statistical categories. The Los Angeles Lakers will hope for LeBron James’ speedy return, along with Anthony Davis’ thrilling form, to carry them in the final stretch of the season.
