Dave Bautista AKA Batista joins star-studded cast of $56.2 million grossing project

Dave Bautista, formerly known as Batista in WWE, transitioned to the Hollywood industry after a long, illustrious career with the Stamford-based promotion. His move to Hollywood has been marked by several high-profile roles in recent years. The Animal recently revealed his involvement in the upcoming movie “The Boy and The Heron,” where he joins a star-studded cast.

In his last WWE match, Bautista faced his former friend Triple H in a No Holds Barred contest at WrestleMania 35. Following his loss in the match, Bautista declared his departure from the ring, subsequently focusing on his Hollywood career.

The movie follows the story of a 12-year-old boy named Mahito Maki. Following the death of his mother in a bombing, his father, Shoichi sends him to live with his aunt, Natsuko in a remote country. One day, Mahito spots a heron and follows it through a tunnel. After emerging from the tunnel into a Grand Hall, Mahito suddenly sees an illusion of his mother. From thereon, Mahito explores along with the heron, an imaginative wonderland which is also described as a “world shared by the living and the dead”.

Karrion Kross explains Batista call out

Although Karrion Kross hasn’t been given much opportunities on SmackDown, he did cause quite a buzz in the world of professional wrestling when he called out Dave Bautista back in 2019, when he was working at the GCW’s Bloodsport event.

In an interview with Chris Van Vliet, Kross talked about the time when he called Bautista out. He revealed that it was never his actual intention to call the Hall of Famer out, but only did so when he learned that he was staying in the same hotel as the event, during the shooting of Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead.

“I go out there and do the match with Nick Gage, choke him, get up, and call Batista out with the intention, hoping that if he really didn’t want to be retired and he wanted to do something that he’s never done before, that would be in his wheelhouse that people have never seen him do, which would be like shoot-work stuff,” said Kross. “I would have been happy to do that.”

According to Karrion Kross, he was a huge fan of Dave Bautista during his childhood. While it’s true that you can never say never in the world of wrestling, it’s still a safe bet that we won’t be seeing a match between the two men anytime soon.
