David De Gea is certainly enjoying his time off soccer, as he is still without a club. The Spaniard recently left Manchester United, for whom he played between the goalposts for 12 years. The veteran had to leave the club after not being offered a contract by the Premier League giants.
Instead, he has been enjoying his time by meeting up with former teammates and simply relaxing. However, he remains desperate to make a comeback in the world of football. Lately, there have been fresh rumors about his potential move to a club in the second division of Spain. And at this very moment, fresh rumors regarding his next club are emerging.
David De Gea snubs Cristiano Ronaldo reunion
Despite some offers by many clubs, especially from Spain, David De Gea is still undecided. There was a chance of his dropping to the Spanish second division, but he has rejected that offer as well. Even though there were rumors of United bringing him back to the club, the 33-year-old is now looking to join a new club in the winter transfer window.
According to the Sun, the goalkeeper was offered to join former teammate Cristiano Ronaldo at his new club Al Nassr in the Saudi Pro League. To convince him to make the move, they offered him a £500,000 a week contract, which is more than what he ever earned. This coupled with the fact the league is growing and he would have played with Ronaldo again made it quite certain that he would accept it. De Gea had also recently tried to ask Ronaldo to join his eSports team.
However, he surprisingly rejected it for a special reason. His wife Edurne, whom he recently married, is a famous Spanish singer and actress. She reportedly blocked the move, as she was not keen to move their family to the Arab state.
Former Manchester United keeper linked with Messi’s Inter Miami
And now it seems that David De Gea is closer to joining Ronaldo’s rival Lionel Messi at MLS club Inter Miami. It seems that Miami’s co-owner, David Beckham, another United legend, wants to bring the Spaniard to the club. He thinks that their mutual connections due to United may help the move happen.
While he and his wife did not want to move their family to Saudi Arabia, it seems that they are more open to a move to Miami, a common thing for many soccer superstars. The move would be a great addition to the MLS club which now boasts the likes of Messi, Sergio Busquets, and Jordi Alba.
The club has been largely successful, winning the League Cup and becoming the runners up in the US Open Cup. However, they will have problems registering De Gea into the squad due to strict MLS rules. Though he will arrive as a free agent, he may have to reduce his wages significantly to make the move happen.
David De Gea will have many options this winter, but he will have to choose fast as his search for a new club continues.
