Days after joining social media’s “Roman Empire” trend, Patriots legend Rob Gronkowski shows off hoops talent in surprise visit

Rob Gronkowski, the former iconic star of the New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, had a magnificent career in the NFL before embracing retirement in 2022 following an 11-season career. During his one-decade tenure in the NFL, he showcased enough potential to be inducted into the prestigious Hall of Fame, alongside his buddy Tom Brady.

Rob, arguably the best tight end in the league, has recently sent shockwaves among fans by showcasing his incredible basketball skills after going with the flow of the “Roman Empire” trend.

Gronkowski’s basketball skills shine at Providence

In a video posted by the PC men’s basketball team on the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, Gronk was seen dunking and taking pull-up jumpers during an on-court workout at Providence College with Kim English, the college’s men’s basketball coach, on Saturday.

Kim even made fun of the ex-NFL star’s athleticism following his shooting hoops. However, for the 6-foot-6, 265-pound former footballer, the basketball court is not new, as he played basketball in high school before devoting himself fully to the football field. Even in a high school basketball season in western New York, he recorded an average of 21 points along with 18 rebounds.

Rob Gronkowski joins the viral “Roman Empire” trend

TikTok introduces its users to new trends frequently, and one of the latest ones is the “Roman Empire” trend where girls ask their partners how often they think about the Roman Empire. In most situations, the answers often seem surprising as husbands or boyfriends reveal a greater number than what their partners guessed. During Fox Sports’ NFL Week 2 coverage, Gronkowski found a chance to go with the trend when he was asked the same question. He replied, “Only when I watch the movie Gladiator.”

However, the former Patriots also shed light on the count of his thoughts about the Roman Empire saying, “So, once every three years.”

Seemingly, the trend is going to have another major boost following Gronk’s comment. Nevertheless, he might not be living under a rock as, according to sources, videos with the hashtag #theromanempiretrend amassed more than 31 million views, whereas videos related to the topic gained almost 1.3 billion views and counting. Though the trend is ongoing now, it was initiated by Saskia Cort, a Swedish influencer, back in September 2022.
