Days after snubbing Fernando Alonso’s former colors, Lewis Hamilton left without room in “head and shoulders above” comparison by Michael Schumacher rival

Lewis Hamilton’s career dates back to 2007, which saw the rookie win six races that season, losing the championship by only one point! In his second season at Formula 1, he managed to clinch the championship from Massa at the infamous 2008 Brazil GP with only a few corners left!

While many regard him as one of the all-time greats, either better than or at least at par with legend of the sport Michael Schumacher, there will always be those to critique greatness. Former F1 driver Giancarlo Fisichella recently gave his opinion on this matter.

Lewis Hamilton not in the league of Schumacher, Alonso according to Giancarlo Fisichella

Giancarlo Fisichella, a driver who shared the grid with both Lewis Hamilton, Alonso and Michael, recently stated to Corriere TV that in his view, Lewis Hamilton does not make his list of all-time greats. Per the former Renault driver, Michael Schumacher and Fernando  Alonso were “head and shoulders” above anyone else.

His respect for the two greats is understandable, given that Fisichella was teammates with Alonso during the iconic Alonso-Schumacher rivalry. Speaking about his former teammate, Fisichella said, “Fernando at almost 42 is living a second youth with Aston Martin. The car is fine, he puts his mind and desire into it.”

When asked to choose between Lewis and Max Verstappen as the leader of his dream team, the Italian stated, “Verstappen. It is the evolution of the species, Max has something more and gives the impression of driving with one hand.”

In the meantime, it seems Lewis already has a considerable amount on his plate regardless of Fisichella’s statements.

Hamilton rejected Ferrari’s offer amid contract turmoil

Recent reports have surfaced with updates on the offer Ferrari had sent to Lewis for 2024. Lewis is currently amidst contract negotiations, but the talk throughout the F1 community has been that Ferrari president John Elkann had personally offered Lewis a seat at Ferrari.

However, amidst even latest reports that Lewis has chosen to extend his stint at Mercedes, the implication is that Lewis has declined Ferrari’s offer. It is reported that this offer from Ferrari was worth around £40 million! Nevertheless, the 7-time world champion seems more inclined to fighting Red Bull at Mercedes, with whom he has won 6 of his 7 titles.

Are Fisichella’s statements substantiated given that he was witness to the iconic rivalry between Alonso and Schumacher, or is it pure conjecture? Do you think Lewis is making the right choice staying at Mercedes or should he abandon his team for the fiery attitude Ferrari adds to the table? Comment on what you think below!
