Manchester City are one of the highest bidders in the Premier League, but Pep Guardiola is always the last person to admit that. The Spaniard has been given the financial freedom he needs to make expensive signings at the Etihad, with the former Barcelona manager taking advantage of the club’s wealth to sign some of the world’s most talented players.
City have continued their spending spree this summer, adding the likes of Gvardiol and Kovacic to their team, with the former costing over $100 million in the record transfer for a defender. Manchester City look to defend their Premier League and UCL titles this season after winning a treble the last time out.
City bolster ranks with Jeremy Doku for $65 million
Manchester City sold Riyad Mahrez to Al-Ahli earlier this summer, leaving them with a hole to fill as the Algerian international was one of the most talented players in the City squad. Pep Guardiola identified Crystal Palace’s Oliseh and Rennes’ Jeremy Doku as the potential replacements for the departed Mahrez, but Oliseh ended up staying at Palace, signing a new contract in the process.
Fabrizio Romano has now reported that City has agreed to a deal with Rennes to transfer Jeremy Doku for $65 million. Doku is one of the brightest youngsters in Europe and will savor the chance to play under Pep Guardiola, considered the greatest manager in football. The 20-year-old Belgian will be City’s third major summer signing after Guardiola sanctioned the signing of the aforementioned Gvardiol and Mateo Kovacic from RB Leipzig and Chelsea, respectively.

City have now spent over $200 million this summer, with most of that budget going on Gvardiol. The Manchester club look to have concluded business for the summer the transfer window as they set to defend their Premier League title and make a deep run in the UEFA Champions League, which they also won last season.
Guardiola scythed at Chelsea for spending spree
Chelsea have been the highest spender of this transfer window, spending over $300 million on new players like Nico Jackson, Christopher Nkunku, Moises Caicedo, and Romeo Lavia. Chelsea splashed a record £115 million to sign Moises Caicedo from Brighton, breaking the previous British record they set when they paid £106 million to Benfica for Enzo Fernandes in January.
Pep Guardiola had something to say about Chelsea’s spending spree, with the Manchester City manager comparing Chelsea’s financial prowess to the one he has at Manchester City. “For Chelsea, it is easier than us, that’s for sure,” Guardiola said. “I couldn’t sit here if we spent what Chelsea spent the last two transfer windows; you would kill me,” he added.
Will Pep Guardiola make any more signing for Manchester City in this transfer window?
