The Kansas City Chiefs are coming off a seven-season AFC West championship streak, with the glory of appearing in 3 of the last 5 Super Bowls. After taking home the Vince Lombardi trophy last year, Patrick Mahomes’ squad is on the way to creating a new dynasty by making another Super Bowl run this year.
Just a few days ago, the Chiefs’ head coach Andy Reid discussed how his stolen idea from a janitor in Green Bay ensured a 14-3 season for his team. However, an NFL analyst pointed out a big challenge that might even cause the failure of Reid’s gameplay in the way of Kansas City’s constant success in the regular season.
NFL analyst highlights Chiefs’ offensive line as a key challenge for Chiefs
Mina Kimes of ESPN has recently said her biggest concern for the Chiefs squad is their offensive line. Their offense undoubtedly runs through the two-time MVP and tight end Travis Kelce first, but threats must be placed at every level of the field.
Except for these QB and TE duo, Kansas City’s offense looks much lackluster. Pat’s veteran troop Orlando Brown Jr. joined his team’s biggest AFC rival Cincinnati Bengals. Kimes mentioned the struggle of the Chiefs’ new offensive tackle Donovan Smith in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as well. According to Fox Sports, the Chiefs have the best odds in the entire league (+600) to grab the Lombardi trophy as of Sep. 3.
Besides, the franchise’s AFC rivals are looking more promising this year. The former Green Bay Packers signal-caller Aaron Rodgers’ acquisition in the New York Jets has already made Gang Green a hot favorite team this year. On top of that, the Bengals, Cleveland Browns, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Baltimore Ravens are loaded with formidable weapons to give tough competition to the defending champion.
Chiefs will face the Lions in their season opener
The Chiefs will face off against the Detroit Lions on September 7 at Arrowhead Stadium in primetime Night Football at 8:20 p.m. ET on NBC in their first match of the regular season. Concluding their journey at GEHA field, Kansas City will play against the Miami Dolphins on Nov. 5 in Germany, and they will face off against Cincy on Dec. 31.
Though Reid’s team is clearly the favorite, the Lions’ head coach Dan Campbell shed light on the possible ways of stopping the Chiefs QB1 in the match.
“Make him go backwards and never turn around where he can throw back that way. That would be about the best way to sum it up. Yeah, look, this guy is – he’s tough. That’s the easy answer to all this. He is a highly competitive, highly instinctive aware player and it all – he is the engine in this offense, everything runs through him, he makes it go.”
With the presence of a room of veteran and young defensive linemen, the Lions are expecting to upset the Chiefs fans by stealing victory from them. Do you think that they will be able to live up to the expectations?
