Deion Sanders discloses “it wasn’t easy” to play without his son Shedeur Sanders after Colorado’s defeat to Utha

Deion Sanders’ tenure was anticipated to usher in a new era for the struggling Colorado Buffaloes, with the NFL legend taking on coaching duties and appointing his quarterback son, Shedeur Sanders, as the team’s starting quarterback. Despite the promising start, the team’s winning streak came to an end after facing Oregon in September.

As they concluded the season with a losing streak against rival Utah, Coach Prime openly acknowledged the team’s shortcomings. Yet, amid the loss, he highlighted his son’s abilities as the primary reason behind the team’s success so far.

Deion Sanders talks about not being able to play his son

The Buffs displayed unwavering effort in a closely contested 23-17 loss to the Utes. During the game, Shedeur Sanders could not join his team during their six straight losses this season.

The first-season quarterback for the Buffaloes sustained injuries during their Week 12 defeat to Washington State, sidelining him with arm and ankle injuries.

After the loss, Coach Prime attributed the setback to the absence of Shedeur, emphasizing that winning without the starter “isn’t easy.”

Since recruiting his son to the college team he coaches, Deion has consistently championed Shedeur Shedeur’s abilities, even amidst criticism for handing him the starting role. The Buffs’ coach hasn’t shied away from expressing his aspirations to see his son become a first-round pick in the NFL draft.

Utha beat Colorado

No. 14 Utah emerged victorious with a 23-17 win over CU in a crucial Pac-12 matchup, securing a coveted spot in the Pac-12 title game. The Buffaloes faced a challenging task without star quarterback Shedeur Sanders, which made their chances against Utah on the Utes’ senior day appear less likely.

Nevertheless, this setback paved the way for freshman Ryan Staub to make his inaugural start for the Buffaloes.

In the absence of Shedeur Sanders, Utah advanced into CU territory with a pivotal 13-yard run by Sione Vaki. The team ultimately opted for a 34-yard field goal, successfully executed by Cole Becker, securing a 10-0 lead, according to Buff Zone.

Regardless of the Buffaloes’ initial struggle to score in the first quarter, they managed to narrow the lead in the second thanks to Alejandro Mata’s 47-yard field goal right before halftime. Despite Staub’s impressive 18-yard touchdown pass to Travis Hunter in the fourth quarter, which brought the Buffs within a score, they were unable to secure a victory.

The loss marked a challenging season conclusion for the Buffs, finishing at the bottom of the Pac-12 for the second consecutive year.

This outcome starkly contrasted with earlier expectations, as a former NFL player had envisioned the team as a potential playoff contender for the season. It seems Coach Prime’s take on his team’s failure to discover the recipe for winning as perfect.

The outcome was quite different from what was expected, as a former NFL player had believed the team had the potential to make it to the playoffs. It appears that Coach Prime’s perspective on his team’s inability to find the winning formula is spot on.
