The Colorado Buffaloes, led by Deion Sanders, have brought a new mania in college football. Since clinching back-to-back victories over TCU, Nebraska, and Colorado State Rams, they witnessed their first defeat after going down to the Oregon Ducks on Saturday.
The Ducks, ranked No. 10 in the AP Top 25 poll, was clearly one of the toughest rivals this season. Before the face-off, the Ducks head coach Dan Lanning ignited his squad by delivering a not-so-good message regarding Sanders, and now, the latter has delivered some words for him.
Dan Lanning claims Deion Sanders’ Colorado play for clicks
The Ducks entered halftime with a 35-0 lead before finishing the match 42-6 to break their rival’s winning streak. Before the match, Lanning tried to boost his team’s spirit by saying the Buffaloes are fighting just for some mere clicks of netizens whereas they are fighting to secure victory only.
“The Cinderella story is over man. They’re fighting for clicks, we’re fighting for wins. There’s a difference, right? There’s a difference. This game ain’t going to be played in Hollywood. It’s going to be played on the grass, right? It’s going to be played on the grass.”
Media has been going on a frenzy with Sanders and his troops for the last couple of days, and hence, it was a direct dig aimed toward them. Even heading into the locker room at halftime, Oregon HC looked furious to dominate his opponent further, albeit they were leading the game.
“We’re not done yet. We’re not satisfied. I hope everyone that’s been watching (Colorado) every week is still watching.”
Another interesting highlight of the Ducks vs. Buffaloes showdown was the former’s mascot, which dressed up as if to take a shade at Coach Prime. The mascot was wearing a cowboy hat, chain, and sunglasses like the coach, albeit all efforts went in vain when its head fell off while smashing a ‘Prime Time’ clock, making it run away embarrassingly from the spot.
Sanders responds to Lanning’s criticism
Following the match, Deion Sanders had a chance to give it back to Dan by throwing subtle jabs at him. However, the veteran remained cool while stating he wouldn’t go down that road . He also raved about his opponent’s coach for stealing victory over his team.
“I don’t say stuff just to say stuff for a click, contrary to what some may say. Yeah, I keep receipts… God bless him though. He’s a great coach. He’s done a great job. God bless him. Take their shots, they won. I don’t shoot, I don’t do that. They won.”
Even Tyus Jones, a former Memphis Grizzlies guard, fended for Deion while asking why other coaches lost their cool seeing the success of Coach Prime and urged them to heap praise on him for bringing new mania in college football.
Meanwhile, getting shaded by other coaches is not new for Coach Prime as the Rams coach Jay Norvell also threw an indirect dig toward him saying he takes his hat and glasses off while talking, disgracing Deion who is famous for donning a hat and shades always.
