Cleveland Browns talisman Deshaun Watson had been the talk of the town at the beginning of the 2023–24 season due to his exemplary performances against a mighty opposition. The way he carried himself on the pitch was a testament to his skill and poise, which also showed in the massive upturn in the Browns’ form.
However, all of that quickly turned sour as he was slapped with an 11-game suspension that rendered him unavailable for selection during the latter stages of the season. Now, with the new season coming up, speculations about his availability have started doing the rounds again. Let’s find out more.
Deshaun Watson expected to train again in March
While many of his fans and the Cleveland Browns faithful were anticipating a pompous comeback of their talismanic QB, Deshaun Watson might not be ready for a comeback just yet. However, he has started training again for his impending return.
The 28-year-old has started gearing up for the new season and will start throwing again next month. Granted, it will take a while for him to hit the ground running after being suspended for such a long time, but players of his ilk rarely take too long to start performing for their franchise.
NFL could still punish Deshaun Watson further
While fans are gearing up to see their franchise quarterback take to the field, the league official might have some other plans, according to some sources. The NFL is still planning to slap more sanctions on Deshaun Watson in light of the sexual harassment cases running against him. However, that will only be the case if further evidence is found.
According to NBCSports, the QB could be spending more time on the sidelines if the cases take too long to be dismissed. The sources also say that the original deposition, of which Deshaun Watson was a part, ended only in 2 hours and 14 minutes because his attorney repeatedly asked Watson not to answer certain questions that were about the other cases that were filed against the Browns QB.
In light of that, the prosecution could ask for another deposition, which would, in turn, stretch the case further, risking the availability of Deshaun Watson for his beloved franchise.
