Deshaun Watson injury update: Browns QB ‘can’t put a timeline’ on his return with missing practice heading NFL Week 7

After facing a blow from the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Cleveland Browns buckled up strongly in the week 3 game against the Tennessee Titans. However, after beating the Titans, they had to digest another defeat in week 4 before smashing the formerly undefeated team San Francisco 49ers in the next game.

While the Browns squad was busy preparing for the intense matchups in the last few weeks, their quarterback Deshaun Watson was struggling with a shoulder injury. The team’s head coach Kevin Stefanski earlier told reporters that the signal-caller had been making improvement but day to day. Now, the QB himself has come forward to provide an update on his injury status.

Deshaun Watson ‘can’t put a timeline’ on his return

Watson has been rehabbing from the rotator cuff strain to his right throwing shoulder for the past few days. As he mentioned, throwing balls and even movement of the shoulder became quite difficult for him. Speaking to the media for the first time since Sept. 27, the signal-caller said he had followed those instructions given by the medical team while mentioning that his exact comeback period could not be determined.

“I mean it can be any day. It can be tomorrow, it could be Sunday, it can be two weeks from now. I’m not even sure. It’s day to day. I’m following the steps of the medical team, and when that time is ready then I’m going to go out there. I can’t put a timeline on anything right now,” he said via ESPN.

The Browns star sustained such an injury for the first time and had been working relentlessly to get back on the gridiron. He mentioned how he had been extra cautious in the recovery process, and also had been staying out of the field to avoid any unfavorable things.

“We just gotta continue to take it day-to-day. I’m not gonna put the team in jeopardy if I can’t do certain things that is gonna allow us to be handicapped in certain situations. That’s the reason why I haven’t been able to step on the field.”

The dual-threat initially sustained the injury in Sep. 27’s match against the Tennessee Titans in week 3 after getting hit on a QB keeper. The doctors couldn’t diagnose the injury till Sept. 30 ahead of the Browns match against the Baltimore Ravens.

Deshaun Watson misses Wednesday’s practice heading NFL Week 7 vs Colts

Watson had been a part of the warmup session prior to the match against Baltimore, albeit he was later ruled out for the match, and missed the next game against the San Francisco 49ers as well. Having the next matchup against the Indianapolis Colts in week 7, the QB couldn’t participate in Wednesday’s practice session.

When asked if he could resume play on Sunday, the 28-year-old star said it had been “up in the air”. However, he also mentioned how frustrating the past three weeks had been for him as he sensed that the Browns were getting the ground running for the offense, but he had been struck in dealing with the adversity.

If Deshaun Watson fails to appear on the field against the Indianapolis Colts, P.J. Walker will take over his spot like before.
