Despite £434.5m transfer expenditure in the Summer, Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino calls for even more signings in transfer window

Chelsea fans have not been having the best of times in the last few seasons. Ever since the club was taken over by Todd Boehly and his American consortium, the club has not seen the heights it was once accustomed to.

Last season saw a drastic decline in performances under Graham Potter and he was eventually sacked in a season that saw them go down to 10th. This season, they are even worse off, despite already having spent over £1 billion so far on reinforcements. Furthermore, they also face a points deduction if found guilty of breaking rules.

Mauricio Pochettino wants to splash more cash

Yesterday, Chelsea lost once again, this time to relegation candidates Everton. The loss caused much disappointment to fans, who were finally starting to see some form of improvement in the last few weeks.

Manager Mauricio Pochettino himself was angry after the game and did not hold back. He said in the post-game press conference, “I’m really disappointed. This was a game to play and to win. It’s a problem we need to check.”

However, he surprisingly asked for more support from the owners, again in the form of new transfers in the upcoming winter transfer window. “We need to talk and to try and improve in the next transfer market.”

This comes as a surprise, as the club has already overspent in recent times, ever since Todd Boehly took over. They have spent over £1 billion in three different transfer windows, with a total intake of 25 players. Just in the last summer transfer window, they had spent £434.5 million, which is a record for most money spent by a single club in a single transfer window.

However, most of their big money transfers have not lived up to expectations yet. Many, like Enzo Fernandez, Moises Caicedo, Mykhailo Mudryk, and others, have yet to do anything significant. Chelsea are already ready to spend big again this summer, with Victor Osimhen a top target.

Chelsea’s slump continues with latest Everton setback

The latest loss to Everton sums up the situation the club is in right now. Sean Dyche’s men scored two goals to win the game, even though Chelsea dominated it. It shows that they are clearly suffering from a lack of a natural goal scorer.

They have also lost to the likes of Manchester United and Newcastle United in recent times. As a result, the Blues are just 12th in the Premier League standings. They did show some promise, with some great performances against the likes of Manchester City and Arsenal, matches that they were unlucky not to win.

This Saturday, Chelsea will play against Sheffield United, who have sacked their previous manager, and they will surely hope for a win to improve their standing.
