Despite being at top for three years, WWE HOFer picks Gunther as best titleholder over Roman Reigns

Roman Reigns has broken several records in WWE as the Undisputed Universal Champion since he won the title a few years back. However, one WWE legend puts Gunther over the Tribal Chief as champion.

The Hall of Famer Bill Apter was talking about several wrestling scenarios that are happening in the industry. While talking about the things happening in the pro wrestling world, Bill was asked who is his current favorite champion to which the HOF’er answered very thoughtfully.

WWE Hall Of Famer picks Gunther over Roman Reigns

Recently in an interview, WWE Hall of Famer Bill Apter picked Intercontinental Champion Gunther over Universal Champion Roman Reigns aka The Tribal Chief as the best pro wrestling champion in the world.

While Roman Reigns has been the Universal Champion for little more than three years now, he only occasionally puts his title on the line at major premium live events against different big superstars of the roster. On the other hand, Gunther, who is getting close to becoming the longest-reigning Intercontinental Champion of all time in the history of WWE, defends it in more face-off inside the squared circle.

Many view the Imperium leader as a charismatic champion for WWE. On the show, Sportskeeda’s UnSKripted, WWE legend Bill Apter was asked to pick the best champion in the wrestling industry at present. After thinking, the veteran journalist answered that since Roman Reigns seldom defends his title, Gunther aka The Ring General is the right pick.

“Best current champion of pro wrestling. Let’s see… Roman doesn’t defend. Gunther! He defends it all the time,” said Bill Apter.

Roman Reigns WWE title defense records

Roman Reigns was already having a historic run as Universal Champion in WWE, but the Tribal Chief cemented his dominance by defeating Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 38 to become the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion. With the victory over Lesnar, Reigns became a four-time WWE Champion.

Roman Reigns is 492 days strong and counting in his current reign as WWE Champion, and he’s expected to hold the championship for the remainder of 2023. He has faced some of the best competitors in WWE while elevating young stars by giving them unique title opportunities. The Tribal Chief saw off Kevin Owens at the 2023 Royal Rumble, Sami Zayn is at Elimination Chamber 2023, and beyond that, the 2023 men’s Royal Rumble match winner Cody Rhodes was unable to finish off the story at WrestleMania 39. Most recently, Reigns dominated his cousin Jey Uso in Tribal Combat at SummerSlam 2023. Since his debut up until now, Roman Reigns has defended titles 27 times.

However, several rumors have been circulating that there will be at least another epic title match of Roman Reigns in the upcoming PLE. Do you think the Tribal Chief will be able to defend his title? Let us know your thoughts on it in the comment section below!
