Cristiano Ronaldo is known to often lose his mind in front of journalists. Most of the time, they often write or report fake news or worse about him. He often goes to war with them for these same reasons.
However, Cristiano Ronaldo is also a businessman at heart. He loves to take risks and build something profitable, with a former teammate inviting him to enter the eSports field. Over the years, aside from playing soccer, he has built an impressive business empire. And now he has taken a hand in the media business, which he often argued with.
Cristiano Ronaldo provides hefty bonus to media house employees
Cristiano Ronaldo has recently taken his business acumen to take on a new approach in life in the media world. Recently, he bought Expressão Livre, which has Cofina Media under it’s belt. Cofina Media is known to manage many well-known outlets, such as Record, Correio da Manhã, and Jornal de Negócios.
To incentivize his new staff members at Cofina Media, he decided to do something to make them feel good right from the start of his ownership. According to Semana, he gave each of his employees there a bonus payment of 1250 euros.
The takeover was completed on November 8, and along with the bonus payment, an email was sent to each employee. It said, “Gratitude to all those who are part of this great company and that every day they sweat their shirts for it.” The Portuguese forward has shown that he is a captain even in the business world, already inspiring them to work hard.
But Cristiano Ronaldo has also decided not to make any changes regarding the content of their news. There has been no ban put on topics about him or any of his close ones. He will allow them to discuss both his professional and private life as long as there are no lies being published.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s rift with the media house prior to purchase
But there is a twist in the story. While he is now the owner of the firm and is even giving out bonuses, he was actually in a rift with them previously. He had problems with one of the newspapers owned by Cofina Media, often accusing it of printing lies, ever since he played for the Portugal national team.

The problems were reportedly so drastic that he was forced to go into legal suits against them twice, specifically in 2011 and 2015. In a 2014 interview, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner said regarding the media house, “I have no respect for that newspaper because it is constantly inventing news, inventing controversies, inventing a bad relationship, and a bad atmosphere in the national team. It has been going on since I started on the national team, constantly attacking the national team.”
A famous incident of the conflict was seen during the Euro 2016 training camp in Portugal, when he was being chased by a journalist. He took the microphone and then threw it into a nearby lake.
However, it seems things have changed, with Ronaldo’s business and analytical mind triumphing over his previous rage and anger.
