Paul Felder, a former ranked lightweight fighter and now a UFC color commentator, has taken a significant step toward returning inside the octagon. He has re-entered the UFC’s anti-doping program, hinting at a potential comeback from his MMA retirement. In October, Felder initiated this re-entry process by providing his first drug test sample to USADA.
According to the promotion’s anti-doping rules, he must undergo drug testing for six months. After that period, he’ll be eligible to compete in UFC matches once again. If everything proceeds as planned, Felder could make a comeback to the octagon by April 2024.

Paul Felder has indeed re-entered the UFC’s anti-doping program, but he hasn’t made a definite commitment to a comeback at this point. He mentioned joining the program as a precaution, in case he decides to return to the octagon. Felder is aware of the impact of time and his increasing age, as he’s now 39 years old. Consequently, he’s keeping his options open and contemplating a return to the MMA spotlight.
Rejoining the anti-doping program doesn’t confirm Paul Felder’s return. However, he has hinted at factors that might influence his decision. The prospect of entertaining fights and the desire to represent Philadelphia with fellow fighters stand out. As of yet, there is no official announcement from the part of UFC.
Felder had already stated inside the commentary booth that he is only interested in fighting UFC veterans like Jim Miller and has no title aspirations. He eyes a spot in the coveted UFC 300 PPV. Felder’s name was discussed as the opponent for Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 223. However, the Athletic Commission refused and the UFC went with Al Iaquinta.
Felder’s return also coincides with the UFC’s split from the USADA. From 2024, the USADA would cease to be the official anti-doping partner of the UFC. Drug-Free Sports International will be the new anti-doping partner of the premier MMA promotion from January 1, 2024.

In 2021, Paul Felder decided to retire from MMA. This decision came after two close losses to Dan Hooker and Rafael dos Anjos.
