Despite getting banned due to involvement in betting scandal, Nicolo Fagioli gets rewarded by Juventus

Italian football was hit with huge, shocking news when it was revealed that three Italian players were involved in betting allegations. Nicolo Fagioli, Sandro Tonali and Nicolo Zaniolo were the three Italian players accused.

While Nicolo Zaniolo was not punished for not betting on his own sport, both Tonali and Fagioli received lengthy bans for doing so. Both have received support from their respective clubs, but Fagioli has now received a reward as well.

Juventus renew Nicolo Fagioli contract

Juventus has always been supportive of Nicolo Fagioli throughout the investigation and his suspension. The player has been suspended until May, which means he can’t be involved in any soccer activities or organizations. And yet, the club has decided to offer Fagioli a new contract despite the ban.

According to renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano, the player has signed a new long-term contract at the club until 2028. The 22-year-old is considered the future of the club, and that is why he has been given another contract, as they believe he will return stronger from this. He has been given a salary increase as well. It was also done to not let him contemplate leaving for another club while being suspended, as he had a contract until 2026.

Before the seven-month ban from the Italian federation, Fagioli had made six appearances for the club. He is considered one of the upcoming midfielders in the country, and he first joined the club in 2021.

Nicolo Fagioli’s involvement in betting scandal

Nicolo Fagioli was the first to fully cooperate with the prosecutors investigating the case. He admitted to betting on soccer games but was proven not to do it with Juventus. He was given a lesser suspension due to this—only seven months instead of three years. He will also have to attend therapy to ensure he overcomes his gambling addictions. Sandro Tonali was found to have bet on AC Milan during his playing days and was given a ban of one year.

Fagioli had also racked up a debt of more than 3 million euros from betting on illegal sites. Apparently, due to the nonpayment of the debts, he was threatened by the debtors and therefore had to borrow money from teammates to pay it off.

While Nicolo Fagioli will no longer be available for Juventus this season, they can expect him to return stronger than ever for next season.
