Despite terrible showing in NFL preseason games, Browns HC shields kicker Cade York from harsh critiques

The Cleaveland Browns’ game against the Washington Commanders ended in a close 15-17 loss for the four-time champion squad. When Sam Howell and Jacoby Brissett faced off in the largest quarterback competition, Browns kicker Cade York also named him, but for his subpar performance.

Despite the poor performance, however, the guy that the Browns team management picked in the fourth round of last year’s selection has their full support.

Browns HC backs kicker Cade York

Since his rookie season, Cade York was not able to show his worth according to the teams’ hope as he recorded only 75 percent of FGAs as a rookie. The 22-year-old battled over a large portion of his rookie campaign, scoring 24 of 32 field goals while missing two of 32 extra points.

Whatever the case, York has a bright future in the eyes of Browns coach Kevin Stefanski. The kicker’s ability was questioned when he was unable to demonstrate it in the preseason game. In this regard, Stefanski was not insistent to express the same opinion, and in a Zoom call, the coach said the player put in a lot of effort. The coach didn’t pay attention to Cade’s terrible performance since he believed his team’s players weren’t prepared enough for the exhibition game.

“Cade’s working very hard just like the rest of our team is. It’s preseason football for all of us. None of us are ready to play or coach any in that first game just yet. So we’re working through it.”

In addition to being a dedicated worker, Kevin stated that Cade York possesses the full complement of physical tools necessary to manage the crucial mental component of the game and declare that he would be the best kicker in the league in the near future.

“Cade’s got the makeup for that role. As you know, he works very hard at his craft. It’s also part of being a player in the NFL and certainly part of being a kicker in the NFL is you got to bounce back from a miss.”

Before being drafted into the NFL, the former LSU standout finished second in the nation in scoring (152) and first in PATs (89).

Cade York’s poor performances during NFL preseason games

The Browns made the decision not to add a second kicker to training camp, placing all of their faith in Cade. This put a lot of pressure on the kicker, which ultimately failed.

Dorian Thompson-Robinson of the Saints guided the offense in their final preseason game before passing York a 46-yard field goal in the third quarter. After missing a 49-yard try last week, the young star failed in his second field goal attempt by missing it.

The one-year veteran was not happy after two missed attempts. However, he was fortunate to find some trustworthy and cordial comrades, just like the coach, as his mate Charley Hughlett then extended his hand to support him.
