Despite weight disparity, Shakur Stevenson predicts Terence Crawford to “beat” Canelo Alvarez

Gone are the days of free-for-all style matchups in combat sports. Today weight classes are one of the key factors in the sport with boxing having up to 17 weight classes and UFC having 12.

Shakur Stevenson, in pursuit of finalizing a bout with Vasiliy Lomachenko, mentioned that while it’s a less probable scenario, he believes Terence Crawford could potentially emerge victorious against Canelo Alvarez in a hypothetical matchup.

Shakur Stevenson backs Terence Crawford to beat Canelo Alvarez

In a recent interview, Stevenson shared his view on Terence Crawford. According to the former two-division champion, Crawford’s southpaw stance, impressive movement, and strong boxing skills could present a significant challenge to Canelo Alvarez, making him a formidable opponent for Canelo.

“Terrence Crawford is running things right now. As for who he should face next, I would love to see him go up against Charlo. Although Charlo is already lined up against Canelo, I genuinely believe Crawford could beat Canelo” Shakur said.

Last week, the highly anticipated clash between Errol Spence Jr. and Terence Crawford took place at Las Vegas’s T-Mobile Arena. Many boxing enthusiasts were enthralled as Crawford showcased his prowess, ultimately achieving a knockout triumph over Spence in the ninth round, securing the undisputed welterweight championship.

“I wish Charlo wasn’t fighting against Canelo but it is what it is. I think Bud could beat Canelo. I would like to see it just because I know like, I don’t think size wins fights, I think skills do” Shakur added.

Alvarez has made a somewhat surprising choice by deciding to fight Jermell Charlo next, passing over the likes of David Benavidez.

Is Shakur Stevenson vs Vasiliy Lomachenko confirmed?

Devin Haney’s decision to move up in weight to face Regis Prograis has resulted in a delay for the potential matchup against Shakur Stevenson. The two boxers have engaged in heated exchanges on Twitter, showing their animosity toward each other.

Recently, Haney secured a unanimous decision victory against Vasiliy Lomachenko in an eagerly awaited lightweight bout at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, though the decision has stirred controversy among boxing analysts and fans, with some believing it should have gone in Lomachenko’s favor.

Given the circumstances, Shakur believes it’s appropriate for him to take on the two-time Olympic gold medalist, Vasiliy, and he has extended a fight proposal via Twitter. However, as of now, Vasiliy hasn’t responded to the offer.
