When he was around 7 years old, Novak Djokovic knew that his goal was to be the world number one. At such a tender age, he had started to master approaching the net and hitting the most elegant net points. The Serbinator was a tennis prodigy, and he set his targets at a very young age. Fast-forward to 2023, and the legend remains in the realm of tennis, continuing to write his unwavering legacy.
The indelible mark that the reigning supreme Novak Djokovic makes in tennis history is unimaginable. Over the past two decades, Novak Djokovic, with Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer, took over the world of tennis, and it was as though no one except them could win any of the tournaments. Amongst the Big Three that held the reigns of tennis for the two decades, one kept surpassing all the numbers.
Novak Djokovic achieved a milestone before Federer and Nadal
Back in 2016, the Serbinator’s goal was to take his 30th ATP Masters 1000 title and he reached his final target at the Toronto Open to reach his goal. His opponent was the Japanese tennis prodigy, Kei Nishikori. By their face-off in the Toronto Open, this dynamic duo had battled against each other 12 times already and Novak led the score at 10-2 wins.
The battle lasted for an hour and 23 minutes and the Djoker took the win in straight sets (6-3, 7-5). This era was the prime time for all the Big Three members and yet it was Djokovic who won his 30th Masters 1000 title that night even before Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal. Today, with Roger and Rafa slowly taken a step back, Novak Djokovic single-handedly holds all the reigns.
Where does Djokovic stand in all-time Grand Slam list?
Djokovic’s goal right now is to win as many Grand Slams as he potentially could and he is already surpassed almost everyone in the list. In the men’s category, Novak Djokovic holds the record of winning the most number of major titles. With 23 marvelous Grand Slam wins, he is tied with the GOAT Serena Williams.
However, the Serbinator is still one Slam short to tie with the all-time record of Margaret Court. The Australian legend won 24 Grand Slam titles in the 1960s but with the Djoker’s conquest for the major title, he might surpass this record by the next year as well.
