Manchester United made a bold move in the summer by choosing Rasmus Hojlund as their perfect preference to lead from the front over the more experienced Harry Kane, who ended up joining Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga. The move for the Danish striker divided opinions among the club’s fanbase, who thought the club was taking a huge risk on the 2003-born striker.
Having only started playing first-team football in 2020 as a 17-year-old, Rasmus Hojlund has huge potential to be one of the best. This was evident in Denmark’s win over San Marino as opposition defenders targeted the Manchester United striker, but did Rasmus Hojlund get injured?
Rasmus Hojlund ‘targeted’ by San Marino
Rasmus Hojlund was on the scoresheet as Denmark beat San Marino 2-1 yesterday. The Manchester United striker scored the first goal three minutes before halftime to give Denmark the lead, and although the Central Italy country leveled the game in the 61st minute, Yussuf Poulsen scored the winner nine minutes later to take the Danes a step closer to qualification.
While Denmark cruised to a 2-1 win, Rasmus Hojlund believed he received too much attention from the opposition defenders, as they ‘targeted’ him and intentionally wanted to get him injured.
“I feel they targeted me, as you can see at the end,” the former Atalanta youngster said. “I understand Italian, and I could hear them saying that they had the idea to crush me. You can see from the images that they only had one idea in mind,” he added.
Simon Kjaer, the team’s captain, also believed his teammate was at the end of some dangerous tackles and refereeing that could have led to a serious injury. In his post-match interview, the Milan centre-back said he overheard some San Marino players saying ‘they were going for Hojlund’s knees.’
Manchester United to visit Sheffield United after Premier League resumption
The Premier League resumes this weekend after the conclusion of the action-packed international break. Manchester United are in action against Sheffield United in a must-win encounter for Erik ten Hag’s side. The Red Devils have won four out of eight matches they’ve played in the league this season, suffering four more, which has left them lying 10th on the table.
United struggled for a win the last time out against Brentford. Scott McTominay’s heroics ensured the Red Devils left Brentford with all three points. The Scotland international scored two goals in three minutes to give United a 2-1 victory in the game.
United fans will be hoping for a win after getting unpleasant news about the Glazers’ rejection of Sheikh Jassim’s offer to buy the club. The American family have reportedly decided to sell 25% of the club to Sir Jim Ratcliffe, Britain’s richest man. The Qatari banker has since turned his attention to Tottenham Hotspur, where he hopes to find good investment opportunities.
