Stephen Curry and LeBron James are two of the renowned names in the NBA, who massively contributed to bringing a change in the dimension of the league. With their exceptional performances and incredible achievements over the years, the generational icons divided the masses. Seeing them together on the floor wearing the same jerseys has been a dream of every hoop lover in today’s generation, but it has never happened before.
Although the Golden State Warriors tried to pair up the Lakers star with their loyal Curry, they were unsuccessful as LeBron desired to continue his journey with the Lakers. However, the USA men’s basketball team is about to make it possible. According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, the national team has almost finalized their star-studded roster for this year’s Paris Olympics, which includes these two NBA greats alongside other notable names in the league.
LeBron had the opportunity to represent the team on various platforms, like the FIBA World Championship in Japan (2006), the FIBA Americas Championship the following year in Las Vegas, and in three Olympic Games (2004, 2008, 2012), acquiring a Bronze in the first and two gold medals in the other two.
On the flip side, Curry appeared for the USA senior team in 2010 to play the FIBA World Cup in Turkey and four years later in Spain, winning gold medals both times. But his timing never collided with that of LeBron James’ and, as a result, they never donned the USA jersey at the same time. Despite being the face of basketball for a long time, the Warriors guard never played in the Olympic Games.
Why did Stephen Curry never play in the Olympic games?
Stephen Curry had one of the most glamorous careers in basketball, decorating his cabinet with major trophies. However, if there’s one thing the 36-year-old hasn’t laid his hands on, it is the Olympic medal.
Curry’s name was not called out for the 2012 Olympic team, but he was certainly chosen for the 2016 Olympics because of his outstanding input in the sport. The 3-pointer specialist rejected the opportunity due to his ankle and knee injury. He was again considered for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, which occurred in 2021 due to COVID-19 restrictions. Curry again withdrew his name as he by no means wanted to risk his preparation for next season.
This time, Curry has no intentions of missing the golden opportunity of appearing in the USA colors beside on-court rival LeBron James, which would provide a fascinating experience for hoop lovers in every corner of the world.
