Kylian Mbappe is one of the world’s best players right now, one who is improving day by day. He has been in superb form for both his club, Paris Saint-Germain and the French national team for a long time. His performances and abilities make any manager want a player like him.
And yet sometimes, managers still want more from their players, no matter how great they already are. Mbappe is apparently suffering despite his success, with PSG manager Luis Enrique unhappy with him. But the Frenchman still has the support of his national manager.
Deschamps’ comical response to PSG manager’s Kylian Mbappe criticism
Kylian Mbappe recently scored a great hat trick for PSG in their 3-0 win against Reims in Ligue 1 before the international break. And yet, manager Luis Enrique was unhappy with the star player.
He said after the game that he expects more than goals from the player: “I am not very happy with Kylian [Mbappe] today. Why? Because managers are so strange. About goals, I don’t have to say anything, but I think he can help the team more in a different way.”
This was quite surprising and was a viral story in the French media. Many were perplexed as to what more Enrique expects from such a great player.
Recently, he starred for the French national team against Gibraltar and had a great performance. After the game, his manager, Didier Deschamps, was asked about the comments by Enrique and he jokingly replied, “I expect more from him.” Even Mbappe, who was next to him, broke out into laughter.
Though Deschamps later clarified that he is actually content with the player , “In his role as captain, he is perfect. He is an extraordinary player. Everything. He can bring serenity to the group, not only on the field.”
Kylian Mbappe bullies Gibraltar on and off the field
Kylian Mbappe was sensational once again as France beat Gibraltar with an astounding 14-0 scoreline in their UEFA 2021 qualifying campaign. It was the biggest win ever in the history of the qualifying campaign. The captain was once again on pinpoint precision as he scored a hat trick of goals and even produced a hat trick of assists. He scored his 300th career goal as well, at just the age of 24.
And it seems that Mbappe was as ruthless off the pitch as he was on it. In the post-match interview, the striker was asked by the journalist about how many goal scorers there were. The journalist asked, “There were 9 goal scorers right?”
But Mbappe appeared to have no mercy for the small nation, replying, “10. 10 with the Gibraltar player,” in reference to the own goal by Gibraltar defender Ethan Santos.
France will now play against Greece this Tuesday as their final Euro 2024 qualifier match. Whether Mbappe plays or not remains to be seen.
