Dillon Danis, the renowned Jiu-Jitsu practitioner, recently suffered a defeat against YouTuber Logan Paul in a crossover boxing match, amassing over a million PPV buys. Following his loss, news of Danis’ release from Bellator MMA surfaced. Danis turned to X, previously known as Twitter, to share his MMA plans.
The response to his tweet has been largely negative. However, in the case of Dillon Danis, predictability is elusive. While losing to Logan Paul is one thing, delivering a forgettable performance may hinder his prospects of securing a new contract.
Dillon Danis aims to join UFC
Following this defeat, whispers began to circulate about Danis’s next move. He openly expressed his ambition to land a UFC contract. Still, there’s no clear sign that UFC is keen on bringing him on board. Nevertheless, there’s speculation that McGregor, might leverage his influence within the UFC to support Danis, reminiscent of his previous interventions for fighters like Artem Lobov.
Danis rose to fame in MMA primarily through his association with Conor McGregor. He was thrust into the spotlight at UFC 229 when Khabib Nurmagomedov leaped over the cage to confront him. Additionally, he had altercations with Ali Abdelaziz, the manager of Dominance MMA, at UFC 268.
However, despite the potential support from McGregor, Danis’s prospects of joining the UFC are uncertain. His limited MMA experience could be a potential hurdle. Only time will reveal where this free agent will embark on the next chapter of his professional journey.
Dillon Danis out of Bellator
In a surprising move, Dillon Danis finds himself in the free agency market. Ariel Helwani confirmed that Bellator MMA officially parted ways with Danis after what can only be described as a unique relationship.
Joining the Bellator roster back in 2018, Danis only stepped into the cage on two occasions over a 14-month period. Impressively, he dominated both fights, securing victories via first-round submission. His opponents were Kyle Walker and Max Humphrey at Bellator 198 and Bellator 222 respectively.
However, after these appearances, he seemed to vanish from the MMA spotlight. A combination of injuries and an apparent reluctance to fight kept him away from the cage. Remarkably, Danis’s only combat engagement in the recent past was a boxing match against internet sensation Logan Paul.
This bout, however, didn’t go in Danis’s favor. He faced disqualification, sealing a loss just a week ago. In the aftermath of the loss, Danis took to X, formerly Twitter) to call out Jake Paul, Logan Paul’s younger brother. Moreover, he also insinuated joining the UFC.
