In the midst of this uncertainty, Tua made a startling revelation on the docuseries “Quarterback” that may have depressed Dolphins supporters.
Tua Tagovailoa talks contract extension
Tagovailoa has solidified himself as the key focal point for the team since the 2020 NFL Draft. The team has already picked his fifth-year contract option which will keep the former fifth overall pick tied with them.
His draft mate Justin Herbert recently signed a lucrative contract worth $ 262.5 M, and Joe Burrow is reportedly vying to surpass Herbert as the highest-paid player in the league. However, it is possible that the Dolphins quarterback ultimately decides to be satisfied with his team’s choice rather than rushing to sign a huge contract extension.
Tua voiced his complete confidence and trust in his team’s judgment during a press conference on Wednesday.
“I haven’t talked about any contract since what I’ve understood with my fifth-year extension,” he told. “I don’t think that’s a worry of mine. When things come, they’ll come because you either deserved it or it’s supposed to happen that way.”
He claimed that even if Miami did not modify his contract, he would still accept it and be happy with the team’s choice. The 25-year-old also admitted that he enjoyed using his performance to demonstrate his value to the squad, making them want to add him to the lineup.
“I think regardless of what it is if they wanted to do it now, if they wanted to wait, whatever,” Tagovailoa said. “I think for myself, I’m always a person that wants to prove to myself that I deserve whatever I get. So for me, I feel like this is something that I need to work for. It’s as plain and simple as that.”
Tagovailoa reveals why he turned down ‘Quarterback’ series
The eight-episode “Quarterback” television series, produced by NFL Films and Omaha Productions, follows the league’s three legendary quarterbacks, Patrick Mahomes, Kirk Cousins, and Marcus Mariota throughout the 2022 season. The series’ primary goal was to provide an in-depth look at what it takes for the three quarterbacks to perform well under pressure.
Along with the on-field drama from the series, NFL fans could end up with a deeper understanding of their favorite athlete’s personal struggles by observing their private interactions with their loved ones, friends, and coaches.
The production company has already vowed to produce a second season after the show was very well received by the audience. Tua could be featured next, but the player has declined the invitation to participate.
Addressing him as a private person during the press conference, Tagovailoa shot back saying he had watched the show and felt it had too many intimate details that he did not want to share with the audience. Tua enjoys keeping family affairs secret since he is aware of how frequently players have problems involving their families.

“I have seen (the show),” Tagovailoa said after practice Wednesday. “There have been talks about going on it. But I feel like right now. it just isn’t the right time. I’m a very personal guy, I felt like the series was a lot more personal, it was a lot more about their personal lives than it was more so what they did on the football field.”
Despite competing at the national level, Tagovailoas’ decision to withhold information about his off-field issues from the public may come as a shock to some. However, privacy is a major issue for many, and an athlete should not be shamed for deciding to keep the intimate details of his life under wraps.
