The preseason game between the Jacksonville Jaguars and Miami Dolphins came to an abrupt end with 8:32 remaining as the latter team’s veteran Daewood Davis sustained a scary injury in the fourth quarter. The Dolphins’ head coach Mike McDaniel and Jaguars’ head coach Doug Pederson mutually decided to call off the match, with Jacksonville leading 31-18.
Following the Buffalo Bills star Damar Hamlin’s horrible injury last season, and the New England Patriots cornerback Isaiah Bolden’s incident a few days ago, NFL player’s safety has become the talk of the town. However, the Dolphins helped many fans take a sigh of relief by delivering a positive update about their wide receiver.
Dolphins WR Daewood Davis released from hospital
According to the Dolphins’ recent statement, Davis has been discharged from the Baptist Medical Center in Jacksonville after remaining under observation for a whole night, and he is now able to travel home with the team personnel.

On Sunday, Miami coach McDaniel voiced optimism regarding the Hollywood, Florida native’s condition saying he has been placed under the concussion protocol of the league.
“He’s doing better than last night in terms of strength. There were certain things that we were worried about that were avoided. But we’ll continue monitoring him extensively as he’s in the protocol. I know that there are certainly a lot of guys that are very, very, very happy and relieved to see him.
Before going undrafted, Daewood played for the Oregon Ducks (2018–20) as well as the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers (2021–22) at the college levels. The 24-year-old veteran recorded 63 passes for 872 yards along with seven touchdowns throughout his senior year at WKU.
Besides him, Miami’s defensive back Elijah Campbell sustained a knee injury and was carted off the field while running back Salvon Ahmed was evaluated for a concussion before being taken to the locker room.
NFL fans react to Daewood Davis’ injury update
Davis lay motionless in the field after taking a hard hit from the Jaguars linebacker Dequan Jackson, and he was surrounded by the players from both teams while medical personnel were dealing with the situation. NFL fans too became concerned witnessing such a scary incident, and following the Dolphins’ recent update about their WR’s health, netizens took to social media to express their relief.
A netizen wrote, “Excellent to hear this news. That was a scary hit he took last night in the @Jaguars game. Best wishes to him on his continued recovery.”

Several preseason games were canceled in the last few days following injuries of players who shortly recovered, and fans took digs at the league for allowing franchises to stop the game after a player gets a normal headshot.
A user wrote, “So can the NFL stop ending games every single time someone gets hurt and takes a headshot now? The stretcher comes out and everyone’s knee jerk reaction is to postpone the game and say fuck it.”
