Dominik Mysterio claims “deadbeat” Rey Mysterio’s US title reign is to overshadow his recent WWE success

Rey Mysterio recently defied all odds and captured the United States Championship for the third time in his career, after defeating the previous titleholder, Austin Theory on the August 11 edition of SmackDown. He is currently scheduled to face Theory at Payback this Saturday in a rematch. Although his win was celebrated by the WWE Universe, his own son Dominik has a whole different opinion about the Hall of Famer’s title victory.

At Clash at the Castle 2022, Dominik Mysterio betrayed his father after his tag team match with Edge against the Judgment Day. Since then, Dominik had been pushing Rey’s buttons, which eventually led to Rey Mysterio finally snapping and facing his son at WrestleMania 39, where the Hall of Famer emerged victorious. Since then, the two have been feuding for some time before eventually moving on. However, it looks like they’re still on bad terms.

Dominik Mysterio slams Rey Mysterio

Rey Mysterio put an end to Austin Theory’s 258 title day reign and captured the US title on the August 11 edition of SmackDown. On the other hand, Dominik Mysterio became the NXT North American Champion after defeating Wes Lee with the help of Judgment Day. And it looks like he has a really harsh opinion on his dad’s title victory.

Dominik recently appeared on WWE’s The Bump, where he was asked whether he was proud of his dad’s accomplishments. To this, Dominik replied that it was actually the opposite. He thought very little of Rey’s new title victory and regarded it as an attempt to overshadow Dom’s own title victory. He further explained that his championship was more important than Rey’s, at least geographically.

“I think it’s kind of sad that he feels the need to win a title to try and overshadow what I’m doing”, said Dominik Mysterio. “But it doesn’t matter because he’s the United States Champion. I’m the champion of all of North America, which includes the United States, Canada, and Mexico. I’m pretty sure I’m the only North American champion that’s ever actually taken this title to Canada, Mexico and the US. But I think it’s kind of sad that my dad feels the need to try and overshadow me with his singles title but whatever, he’s a deadbeat.”

Rey Mysterio set to defend his US title at WWE Payback

After putting an end to Austin Theory’s long title streak, Rey Mysterio has been scheduled to face Theory in a rematch for the championship at the upcoming event this Saturday, Payback.

On the August 11 edition of SmackDown, LWO member Santos Escobar was supposed to face Austin Theory for the US title. However, he was attacked by Theory twice before their match even began. This prompted Rey Mysterio to fill in for his friend and he ended up winning the championship in the end. Last week on SmackDown, The Master of 619 scored his first victory since winning the championship, against Grayson Waller.

Rey Mysterio is currently heading into his match against Austin Theory with plenty of momentum. It might be possible for him to retain the title, as he is rumored to face his fellow LWO member, Santos Escobar for the championship as well. Stay tuned for his match against Theory this Saturday at Payback.
